About The Wine

Mouthwatering, zero dosage Jura sparkling from the family at Domaine Pignier that has a bit of everything - citrus tang, hazelnutty, briochey complexity and, most importantly, immense drinkability.

Biodynamically-grown Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the slopes of beautiful Montaigu are the building blocks of the base wine, with wild yeast fermentation and the bare minimum of sulphur additions.

Some creaminess to the mouthfeel but this is primarily a refreshing sparkling with enough class to rival bubbles from further North.

About Domaine Pignier

Seven generations of Pigniers have tended vineyards in the village of Montaigu located within the pastoral beauty of the Jura region, spanning a couple of centuries. The rest of world may have progressed astonishingly over that time but Domaine Pignier, like Jura itself perhaps, seems to have aged not a day.

Three siblings, Marie-Florence, Antoine and Jean-Etienne are the current custodians, and when they took over in the late 1990s, they committed to a holistic, organic approach, working the vineyards biodynamically since 2000, and achieving Demeter certification in 2003.

Their thirteen hectares of vines speading down the valleys from Montaigu are planted to Trousseau and a little Ploussard for reds, and Chardonnay and Savagnin for whites. All are labelled under the Cotes du Jura AoC.

From The Producer

A brilliant pale yellow colour with green tints, enlivened by fine, dense bubbles. The nose is intense and elegant, with floral notes (acacia, hawthorn) and hints of brioche (sweet bun). A fresh, predominantly flowery attack; with a creamy, elegant effervescence. Fruity in the mouth with a lively, sophisticated final. Excellent harmony.

The base wines for our crémants are fermented using only wild yeasts, then aged in big wooden casks as well as smaller oak barrels (with elimination of the final press juices). Bottling takes place in the Spring, on a "flower" day. The bottles are then stored horizontally to mature on lees for 15 to 18 months.

Blend : Chardonnay (85%), Pinot Noir (15%)
Closure : Cork
Drink Until : 2027
Bottle Size : 750ml

Critic Reviews

The Wine Front

"Lot11418. Pignier is a Jura producer that flies under the radar a bit, but the Cremant is reliable and good.Ginger and lemon tea, salted cashews, green apples. Aromatic, tightly wound, very refreshing and with a pleasant creaminess to the mousse that finishes waxy. The core of limey, salty acidity is all margaritas and zing; it’s delicious and so refreshing. Complex, finely put together, delicious drinking. Perhaps not a lot of depth, but everything is easy going and right on." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

If your order is placed before 12pm we’ll get it on the truck that day. Delivery times vary considerably with Australia Post and unfortunately there is no Express Delivery Option for wine (because it is fragile and heavy). PLEASE NOTE that we are currently seeing significant delays in the Australia Post delivery network. Strict government health and safety requirements and very high parcel volumes are causing significant backlogs at the main NSW and VIC sorting facilities. Orders are still arriving safe and sound but you may notice slower delivery times and less frequent scanning updates than usual.
