The Rieslingfreak No. 3 is John Hughes' outstanding value Clare Valley Riesling.
The Clare Valley is John's home and this wine hails from the family vineyard at White Hutt. The 2025 vintage tells a story of resilience. A year marked by the driest conditions on record and searing heat produced smaller yields but fruit of extraordinary quality. This wine captures the generosity and power of Riesling in the Clare Valley while showing a delicacy rarely seen in such a warm, dry year.
The nose is very enticing, offering Pink Lady apples, Meyer lemon, guava, and fresh nectarine. The palate bursts with zesty citrus, think lemon and blood orange, alongside sweet apple, mango, and passionfruit. A tight, crisp acidity carries these flavours to a long, zesty finish.
An absolute bargain and a must-have for lovers of Australian Riesling, delicious now or destined for the cellar.

"Fresh and tightly wound, with aromas of lime zest, green apples, guavas, talc, gun smoke and white flowers. The palate is full of drive and precision, showing bright acidity with lemon pith, crushed stones and a hint of jasmine. Linear and focused, with a long, mineral-edged finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap."
- Ryan Montgomery (James Suckling)
Tessa Brown and Jeremy Schmolzer have a knack for making wines that are just flat-out delicious to drink, and the Pret-a-Blanc is the perfect example. It is their riff on the Austrian Gemischter Satz style - a traditional Viennese field blend originally designed to mitigate risk in the vineyard, but loved today for its freshness and versatility.
Sourced from the cool Upper King Valley, the 2025 release brings together four varieties: Pinot Gris, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Sylvaner. It’s a textural mix where the varieties fill in each other's gaps. The Riesling provides the cut and drive, the Pinot Gris adds a bit of weight and gloss, while the Sauvignon Blanc and Sylvaner bring the aromatics and spice.
It is crisp, dry and totally charming. This is the ultimate all-rounder in their range - a wine that feels just as at home alongside a roast chicken as it does flying solo on a Tuesday night.
Read MoreOchota Barrels has always had a soft spot for Gewürztraminer. It sneaks into blends here and there in tiny amounts - a splash in a red ferment, a few skins to lift the aromatics - but this is where it takes centre stage.
Weird Berries in the Woods has never been about textbook Gewürztraminer. The motto has always been: do the opposite of what you’re taught with aromatic whites. Pick some berries ripe, some crunchy, some in between - and let the whole lot tell its own story. Basket press, seasoned French oak, wild ferment, no polish.
The 2025 shows all the quirks we love: lychee and tangelo blossom up front, a thread of lavender and ginger, then a bone-dry, chalky finish that keeps you coming back. Full malo this year has given it extra generosity, softening the edges while keeping that nervy line of acid humming through.
It’s fragrant, textural, a little unpredictable - in other words, everything Gewürz should be in the hands of Ochota.
Read MoreTim Smith has been making wine in the Barossa for more than 20 years and is well regarded as one of the best value small-scale producers in the region. This bargain little white blend is a prime example of why - it's the Rhone Valley meets the Barossa Valley at under $30 a bottle.
The Bugalugs Blanc brings together Grenache Blanc, Marsanne and Roussanne - three Rhône varieties that do well in the Barossa’s warm days and cool nights.
The 2025 vintage is a clean, textural white that tastes of pears, citrus and a little spice, with gentle grip through the finish. It’s made as a wine that Tim wants to drink every day (and so do we!), with wild fermentation, a short rest on lees for texture, and bottled nice and fresh.
If you like a dry whites with shape and flavour but none of the oak heaviness, this one will hit the mark. It’s easy to drink, works with food, and shows why Tim Smith’s wines have built such a loyal following.

"Serious white wine with beautiful texture, deft balance and drinkability."
- Nick Ryan (The Australian)
The 2025 Pinot Gris shows Hamish Young doing what he does best – taking a familiar variety and giving it focus and texture. Fruit comes from two cool sites: one near Young in NSW and the other in Gundaroo in the Canberra District. The mix of granite, clay loam and shale soils gives both freshness and weight, which Hamish balances beautifully.
Moderate pressings were included this year to add grip and a gentle savoury edge, with fermentation split between stainless steel (50%), old French oak (42%) and a small portion of whole berries (8%) for extra depth. The result is structured and quietly layered rather than soft or sweet.
It’s all fresh pear, spiced apple and a twist of mandarin peel. The palate feels bright and clean but textured through the middle, finishing dry and mouthwatering. It’s crisp, food-friendly and just that bit more interesting than most Aussie Gris.
