Description

Second-generation vigneros Sam and Angus Wardlaw release this Shiraz as an ode to their old-man, who has inspired and driven them to become the winemakers and people they are today.

The wine itself is a ball of flavour, delicious in nature, and very much a fruit-driven expression of the Eden Valley.

The Wardlaw brothers are making a pretty broad range of wines, showcasing both regional and varietal classics, while also not being hemmed in to any one set style of finished product. As an homage, we think they’ve done pretty damn well with this wine, and we’re sure their old man would be beaming with pride.

95 points
"Puts beyond doubt the proposition that elegance and freshness can be achieved without stress or strain, simply allowing the fruit to express itself... drink and be merry."
- James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 points - "Puts beyond doubt the proposition that elegance and freshness can be achieved without stress or strain, simply allowing the fruit to express itself – red and black cherries to the fore – in a cool, late vintage. The win-win scenario is fuelled by the second glass: drink and be merry." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

Brothers At War

Angus and Sam Wardlaw are the ‘Brothers at War’, starting off with a tonne of grapes, and an idea to produce unique expressions of the region they call home.

Second-generation winemakers, they lean heavily on the knowledge gained from a childhood spent around their father, Barossa pioneer, David Wardlaw.

Working across the Barossa and Eden Valleys, the brothers produce a swath of wines; young fresh easy-drinking styles, to much more serious, old-vine expressions.

Warring brothers at times perhaps, but when push comes to shove, like the Dire Straits song says, “You did not desert me, my brother(s) in arms.”
