Description

The Austrian Grüner Veltliner grape is one of the current 'it' varieties amongst wine lover circles, loved for its texture, natural freshness and versatility with food.

The Adelaide Hills region is where the variety is proving most successful, a fact that can be attributed wholly and solely to the inspired work of Hahndorf Hill guru Larry Jacobs. Jacobs prophetically first planted the variety in the region in 2006, since then many Hills producers have followed suit. But the Hahndorf Hill GRU remains the gold standard of Australian Gruner.

With a lengthy history of trophies, gold medals and outstanding reviews this is a clear benchmark for the variety in Australia - if you want to see what Gruner is all about, there is simply no better example in the country.

Tasting notes: At Hahndorf Hill we produce four different styles of Gruner, of which Gru is our classic style. Our previous vintages of Gru Gruner Veltliner have been highly awarded, including the 2019 Gru Gruner Veltliner, which was rated the best Gruner Veltliner at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2020, and also the 2020 vintage which was the top-rated Gruner Veltliner at the London Wine Competition 2021.

Now try this beautiful 2023 vintage with its perfumed nose of peach, lime peel and chamomile. The palate is brimming with yellow-fleshed peach, grapefruit and an edge of guava, all framed by a juicy, limey acidity and mouth-filling texture.

This wine has a long, flavoursome finish with on-going layers of delicious texture and spice. Perfectly matched with all Asian cuisine, white meats, seafoods and vegetarian dishes. But most excitingly, here is the ultimate white wine that will match perfectly with your favourite rare sirloin steak!

Gruner Veltliner is a variety that ages well and this wine should develop splendidly for up to 8 years.

    Excellent

A fitting benchmark for Australian Gruner. Bright and complex, with a delicious interplay between apparent fruit sweetness and soft acidity. Green apple, underripe quince, and a stamp of white pepper and spice. A museum release of this wine would be really rewarding too.

    Great Gruner!

Really enjoyed this bottle. It was more on the spicy savory end of the spectrum. It really improved as it warmed up to room temperature too -- always a good sign in my book. And is goes for under $30. Bargain!

    Was a popular drop

Shared this with 5 others around the table. Everyone wanted a 2nd glass. But alas we only had a single bottle. A welcome change from the regular whites in the rack.

Hahndorf Hill

Hahndorf Hill Winery (HHW) is owned by Larry Jacobs and Marc Dobson, who operate the boutique business together with a dedicated team.

Larry was once an intensive-care doctor who gave up medicine to become the founder of Mulderbosch Vineyards in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

His trailblazing label in the Adelaide Hills is regarded as the benchmark in Australia for Austrian varieties, this stuff is world class.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
