Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy for Best Young Red Wine - Royal Melbourne Wine Awards
The 2024 release continues Meadowbank’s strong run under Peter Dredge — a vibrant, savoury-edged Pinot that captures the energy and nuance of southern Tasmania. The vineyard’s Pinot blocks, first planted in 1987, remain central to the Meadowbank story, now shaped by the combined hands of Gerald and Mardi Ellis and Dredge himself.
Fruit is picked in three stages across two weeks to build complexity from varied ripeness levels. Fermentation runs for around two weeks on skins, followed by nine months in seasoned French oak. The result is a wine with lift and crunch, but also depth — earthy, fragrant, and built around clean, expressive fruit.
There’s no heavy winemaking here, just a calm, confident hand. A Pinot with detail, drinkability and a clear sense of place from one of Tasmania’s most important vineyards.
The Sorrenberg Gamay is one of Beechworth's most beloved wines and holds cult status amongst collectors of the rare birds of Australian wine. The 2025 is another great release, in possibly a more approachable and playful style.
The fruit is grown and vinified by Barry and Jan Morey on their small property on the outskirts of Beechworth township. Winemaking is low-tech but detailed, each berry receiving attention from Barry on its way through wild ferment.
The fruit (including 10% Pinot Noir) is basket pressed and sent to slumber in the caves beneath the Morey household before being bottled.
Often described as a 'Burgundian-style'; there are many reasons why this is considered by many as Australia's best Gamay and our answer to Cru Beaujolais, but to truly know why you'll need to try it for yourself.

If there’s one wine that defines Luke Lambert’s reputation, it’s this. Planted halfway up Denton’s sun-catching northwest slope, the Nebbiolo block is a patchwork of six clones rooted in granitic sand over bedrock - a rare and striking terroir for the Yarra Valley. Luke farms it with the same quiet precision that runs through all his wines, chasing perfume and beauty above all else.
In 2023, that beauty comes wrapped in tension. Wild-fermented, 18 days on skins, then 18 months resting in old Slavonian and French oak foudres, it’s a wine of filigreed structure and haunting depth. Rose petals, sour cherry, orange rind and anise spill from the glass, while the palate balances brightness with a fine-boned tannin web that stretches long and savoury.
Luke calls Nebbiolo a variety “built for beauty” - and this release proves the point. Made in painfully small quantities, it’s a wine that rewards patience, but even now it’s an unmistakable benchmark for Australian Nebbiolo.
"The 2023 Nebbiolo shows every bit of the mild and very good growing season. A more open wine than the 2022 with slightly darker fruit and lower acid making it a softer more approachable young wine. One to decant if drinking in the short term, but will continue to improve in the bottle over the next 8 to 12 years."

Here we have yet another remarkable release from one of Australia's greatest winemakers.
The 'Sunrise Grenache' comes off a single block within Steve Pannell’s Little Branch vineyard in Blewitt Springs – old bush vines planted in 1920, producing their 99th vintage in 2022. It’s a site Steve knows like the back of his hand, dry grown and rooted deep in Blewitt’s ancient sand. When he took over the block, he pruned the vines himself, working them back to balance. The payoff has been extraordinary.
The 2022 season was long and cool, giving small yields and near-perfect ripeness. Steve handled the fruit the only way he knows how – by feel. Hand-picked, gently fermented, nothing added, nothing forced. Just patience, old oak, and total trust in the vineyard.
The result is breathtaking. Bright yet layered, pure yet deep, it threads red fruit, spice and fine sandy tannins into something seamless. It’s poised, complete, and easily one of the greatest Grenaches Steve has ever made – a wine that marks a turning point not just for the vineyard, but for McLaren Vale Grenache itself.
100 points
"In many ways, it feels as if all of the Grenache that Pannell has made over the decades has been leading up to this point. It was worth the wait."
- Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)
Dry Red No. 1 is where it all began for Yarra Yering, and in 2023, it’s once again a masterclass in what makes the Yarra Valley one of Australia’s great Cabernet regions.
This is a wine built on the strength of its foundation - Cabernet Sauvignon from the very first plantings in 1969 - blended with Merlot, Malbec and a splash of Petit Verdot from neighbouring blocks. Every parcel is treated with reverence: whole berry ferments for fragrance, open-top fermenters for texture, a mix of new and seasoned oak, and one third of the Cabernet gets the royal treatment with eight weeks on skins in a 3,500L oak cask.
This is a glorious wine. A wine of depth and quiet power. Dark fruit, fine tannins, just enough grip, and a savoury undercurrent that builds with every sip. It’s polished, but not flashy - in every sense a benchmark of the famous Yarra Valley Cabernet wine style.
It's a wine destined for great things. Winemaker Sarah Crowe knocked this out of the park. It should be an essential part of any serious Australian cellar.
99 points and 2026 Cabernet & Blends of the Year
"Classic cool-climate cabernet aromas of black cherry, blackcurrants, cedar, licorice and subtle iodine. The palate is simultaneously concentrated, structured and refined, finishing with an ironstone minerality."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.
Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.
What that means for you:
- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate
Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.
**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.
If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
We’d love to help you out! Email is usually best but if it’s something urgent or you just really want to have a yarn about wine, food, or even the meaning of life, give us a call — we’re here for you.
