2023 Timo Mayer Dr. Mayer Pinot Noir

This is the wilder version of Pinot Noir from Yarra Valley cult favourite, Timo Mayer.

The Doktor Pinot Noir is 100% whole bunch fermented, Timo using the extra stalk component to drag out additional tannin and texture. He has a particular affinity with stalkier Pinot Noir, you can hear his passion in the way he talks about it.

Wildly aromatic, powerful, densely concentrated and only made in small quantities. If Pinot Noir with swagger is your game, you need an appointment with the Doktor.

"Big perfume of black cherry, green olive, undergrowth, black pepper, rosemary and fennel. Good start. Feels plush yet crunchy, with more dark cherry, lots of black pepper, paprika spice, black olive in brine and clove-woody spice. Fine tannins chime in, a wrap and building to a fine pucker. You can see this having a long and interesting future too. Gorgeous."
- Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

2021 Best's Great Western Old Vine Pinot Meunier

This wine is a little piece of Australian history. The year is 1868. Eleven rows of Pinot Meunier are planted alongside a little Pinot Noir at Best's Great Western. Phylloxera wipes out Europe's vines, yet Best's vines remained untouched.

They now boast the oldest vines of this variety on the planet. There is ever so little of this wine made. Most years, it is declassified down into the Young Vine Pinot Meunier, but every so often the quality and quantity is high enough to warrant a solo release. Each vintage is highly collectable.

It disappears into the cellars of people in the know very, very, quickly. This is a rare bird in Australian wine and one well worth saving for a special occasion.

"Prepare yourself for an exquisite beauty of a wine. It enjoys an effortless purity of fruit; from aroma to palate there's a delicacy of concentrated red berries, pomegranate, violet, dusty earth, underbrush and dried herbs. Superfine across the palate, almost sinewy at this early stage, but supported by firm, focused tannins for a lot more time in bottle. A lot more."
- Jeni Port (Halliday Wine Companion)

"It is light-bodied but beautifully textured and supple, super-refined, with great drinkability and is already starting to show complexity. Long and satisfying in the mouth. A superb example of the grape."
- Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

2022 Lambert Nebbiolo

This wine is always the most anticipated release from the remarkably talented and enigmatic Luke Lambert.

And it's no wonder this is regarded as a benchmark for Australian Nebbiolo. From a single site on unique granite soils in the Yarra Valley, this is quite simply one of the finest examples of this variety you will find anywhere in Aus.

It's made with traditional methodology: wild ferment, extended time on skins and maturation in a combination of old Slavonian and French oak.

This is looking like one of his finest releases to date. Unfortunately, he only makes this wine in minuscule amounts. Allocations are extremely limited.

2021 Yangarra Ovitelli Grenache

97 points & Australian Wine of the Year
"This is a stunning wine. Imperious, even. I'd love to see this in a decade or more."
- Ned Goodwin MW (JamesSuckling.com)

A Grenache of remarkable purity and energy here from the team at Yangarra.

To create the Ovitelli Grenache, a selection of the best fruit from the old Grenache vines that populate the Yangarra vineyard is carefully berry sorted, then sent to ceramic egg to ferment naturally and left to rest on skins for 170 days thereafter.

This is an ethereal Grenache, a nervy and tightly coiled rendition of the variety, which speaks eloquently of its home.

It's a truly beautiful example of McLaren Vale Grenache which is stunning now and will evolve gracefully with time in bottle.

2021 Yeringberg Cabernets

Yeringberg is one of the great family-owned estates of the Yarra Valley. The heritage and history that this site holds for the de Pury family stretches back more than 100 years; theirs is one of the great wine/farming stories of the region.

Their Cabernet blend is their most iconic wine, a wine that sits well and truly amongst the Yarra Valley's greats. A refined, mid-weight blend of all five Bordeaux red varieties, grown side-by-side, laden with fully integrated luscious new French oak, this is an elegant Cabernet blend of the highest order.

Whether you drink it now or in several decades time, this is a wine you will remember.

98 Points
"From a great year, this is a beautifully fragrant and seductive Yeringberg...The epitome of medium bodied, it's elegant, discreet and persistent on the palate, even at this early juncture."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

2022 Sami-Odi Hoffmann Dallwitz Syrah

95 points
"“Our second strongest alcohol wine ever!”, quips Fraser, “no fist bumps to come with that, it just is what it is”.

“The 2022 vintage was interesting for us. I waited and waited and waited for flavour to come on in the grapes, wanting more interesting characters, and the sugars didn’t seem to be moving much, and then the final result, even with this longer ripening period, ended up boozy in numbers, yet I see cooler characteristics in the wine. Go figure”.

Scents and flavours of choc-cherry, oyster sauce, black pepper, anise, salted liquorice, faint Aussie bush characters going on in between bouquet and palate. The texture is slippery and deeply flavoured yet seems to lift of fine, powdery tannin and blood orange and amaro-like characters. It’s a pleasingly bitter wine, a touch alpine, tannins understated but elegant and high quality; teroldego or mondeuse anyone? Perhaps the sweetness of the finish the only quibble, but so very passing amongst the pleasure on hand here."
- Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
