About The Pack
With the skyrocketing price of Burgundy in markets around the world, it's harder than ever to find good value Burgundy (particularly red) that still represent the things that make Burgundy great.
Enter the wines of Francois and Isabelle Lumpp. The couple own a nine hectare domaine in Givry, one of the most undervalued AOCs of the region. These wines offer incredible value for money. The reds are all destemmed and fermented in open top fermenters before being pressed to light toast oak (70% new) for elevage. Each Premier Cru bottling from the 2017 vintage has been rated as 'Outstanding' by Burgundy expert Allen Meadows (Burghound). For the price, there are few offerings in Australia currently that could compete with these wines on a quality for price ratio.
There are only a limited number of these packs available. If you want some serious Burgundy in your cellar which won't cost you an arm and a leg, this mixed pack is a terrific place to start.

“Reductive notes are sufficiently prominent to override the fruit today. Otherwise there is exceptionally good richness and density to the opulent and seductive flavors that are supported by dense but buried tannins on the balanced and sappy finish. This is also most impressive and should age effortlessly." – Sweet Spot – Outstanding - Allen Meadows (Burghound)
2017 Francois Lumpp Givry 1er Cru Le Pied du Clou Rouge
Pied du Clou is a Monopole owned by Francois Lumpp, located just behind the winery in the centre of the appellation. It came about after Francois began the process of the foundations of the winery and saw how superb the soil was. He applied to the INAO and was granted 1er Cru status in 2010.
0.65 of a hectare planted.

“A densely fruited nose is comprised by liqueur-like essence of spiced dark cherry, violet and a hint of wood toast. Once again the concentration is such that it imparts a succulent mouth feel to the middle weight flavours that brim with sappy dry extract that also does a fine job of buffering the moderately firm tannic spine shaping the balanced finish. This is impressive in every respect and well-worth checking out." - Outstanding - Allen Meadows (Burghound)
2017 Francois Lumpp Givry 1er Cru Petit Marole Rouge
Sourced from 25 year old vines this 1er Cru sits at the top of the middle part of the appellation leaning more towards the North ‘Clay’ styles. 0.76 hcts owned by the domaine.
This wine often opens before the rest of reds, Francois reminds me during tastings this is usually the first 1er Cru to be enjoyed.

“A slightly more elegant nose features notes of extract of black raspberry, fresh cherries and a whiff of spice. The juicy and admirably concentrated medium weight flavours also offer impressive depth and persistence on the bitter cherry-inflected finish. This is good stuff that could be enjoyed young or aged over the mid-term to good effect.” – Sweet Spot – Outstanding - Allen Meadows (Burghound)
