About The Wine

The STH (South) Pinot Noir is the final piece of the Two Tonne Tasmania sub-regional Pinot Noir puzzle.

Ricky has been trying to put a southern Tasmania Pinot Noir together for a while. This year, it came to fruition.

He managed to source two small parcels of fruit, one from Kinvarra vineyard in the Derwent Valley, the other from the notable Nocton vineyard in Coal River.

Both parcels were fermented together, the Derwent bringing the brightness to the wine, Coal River bringing the shade.

Of the three excellent sub-regional Pinots in Ricky's range, this is the biggest, darkest and plushest of the bunch.

About Two Tonne Tasmania

With the slogan ‘small parcels, big love’, Ricky Evans' thoughtful winemaking approach has seen his southern star rise rapidly with a swag of accolades in a relatively short time.

Since his serendipitous entry into the much saught after sub-region of the Tamar Valley in 2013, he has garnered a reputation for producing some of Tasmania's most exciting and hard-to-get small batch wines.

Pinot Noir is Ricky’s main game, and he plays hardball. His Pinots show brilliant light and shade. A gentle touch in the winery allows fruit and vineyard to shine - a theme that carries through his excellent regional examples of Riesling and Chardonnay.

The wines of TTT typify the purity and elegance of modern Tasmania.

From The Producer

Kinvarra (Derwent) and Nocton (Coal River) are new members of the family—not for lack of trying. The south was hard to crack, and I wanted my Pinot from there to be from two different parts, so that was tricky to pull off. Anyway, away we go! Both parcels were ready at the same time, and there was such a small amount of each that I decided to blend them as fruit. So yes, this was a marriage at first sight set-up. The Coal River parcel provides the darker fruits and tannin drive, while the Derwent brings spice and red fruits. I quite like this, it seems very familiar, after many years looking after wines predominantly from these regions in my days back at Bay of Fires winery.

DDS review

This is the plushest of the Two Tonne sub-regional Pinot Noirs. It sits in the darker end of the Pinot pool. Plums and forest fruits, some sweet earthy notes and warm mulch. Smooth, easy-riding tannin. If you like the more powerhouse styles of Pinot Noir from our most southern state, this will likely be your favourite of the three. - Different Drop Wine Team
