About The Wine

The Green Room Grenache is a fresh look at Grenache from the Onkaparinga Hills.

The Grenache from a vineyard planted in 1946 is the focal point of this piece. Most of the fruit is whole bunch pressed with the fruit spending up to 88 days on skins.

Got a whole lotta skins. The detail here is mesmerising.

Phenolics, clean natural acid and palate tension are the rhythm section of the wine, with floral highlights and bright fruit making up the melody and harmonics.

This is a young, vibrant, dazzling version of McLaren Vale Grenache which just gets better every year.

About Ochota Barrels

The term “rockstar winemaker” gets thrown around a lot these days but Taras Ochota, owner/purveyor of cult wine label Ochota Barrels, is the real deal.

His grungy, minimalist attitude towards his label has seen him gain huge cult status internationally as one of the most boundary-pushing winemakers in Australia. From his home in the beautiful Basket Range of the Adelaide Hills, Taras and his wife Amber craft small batches of wine from surrounding vineyards in the Hills and special sites across McLaren Vale and the Barossa Valley. Taras picks earlier than most as a general rule, so expect lighter, more ethereal wines with freshness and 'tension' as a motif.

These are highly sought after and extremely limited wines which have a pulsating energy and drive to them. Some of the country's most exciting vinous creations, no doubt.

Critic Reviews

DDS review

"Off a McLaren Vale vineyard planted in the mid-1940s. Shimmering garnet colour, white strawberry and cherry juice, crisp tannins, faint dusting of spice, chewy texture through great length, mouth-watering and cool finish. Easy drinking style but with tension, fine detail and delicacy. Very beautiful." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

DDS review

"Lifted spice, Satsuma plum compote and a herbal thread of thyme with white pepper entwine the strikingly fragrant bouquet of bouillon. The palate entry is opulent yet nervy with medium bodied savoury, (almost Pinot like) finely grained textural components resembling pomegranate and lingonberry." - Taras Ochota
