About The Wine
"Fin de La Terre" translates to "The End of the Earth" - winemaker Shaun Crinion says it takes so long to drive to this vineyard during vintage feels like you're about to reach the edges of our planet.
The drive is worth it. The Shiraz fruit that comes from this Steels Creek vineyard is stunning.
The 2018 vintage was fermented as 100% whole bunches, Shaun thinks the combination of sweet fruit generated from cab mac (carbonic maceration or whole berry ferment) needs the spice and architecture that the stalks provide to be a well balanced wine.
This is a beautiful, elegant representation of Yarra Syrah.
About Dappled
Dappled owner/winemaker Shaun Crinion has a mountain of winemaking experience from around the globe, culminating with the establishment of a label all of his own.
Shaun's focus is on expressing the sub-regionality of the Yarra Valley through simply gorgeous Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and a growing range of experimental wines.
With the combination of Shaun's A-grade fruit from the Yarra's top growers and his precise, astute winemaking, the value on offer in the Dappled range is second to none.
He was James Halliday's Best New Winery in 2018. The wines have only stepped in quality since then though the modest pricing remains the same. Unsurprisingly, his wines sell out in short order each year. He's now regarded as one of the best small-scale producers in the modern Yarra Valley.

From The Producer
Sourced from the Peirce Family vineyard in Steels Creek at the base of the Kinglake range. It’s a warm site with hungry mudstone and shale soils with a granitic bedrock base and some scattered quartz. The vines are own rooted and planted in 1990.
Winemaking
Hand-picked and sorted, cooled overnight and gently placed into 1 tonne fermenters as 100% whole bunches. The fruit is locked up for two weeks to start a natural carbonique ferment for 2 weeks with no working at all… after which time the fruit is pigéaged (foot stomped) once a week for a further 5 weeks. The must is then pressed straight to a very old puncheon with all lees - and not touched until May the following year. It’s then that the wine gets racked straight to its bottling tank and is bottled by hand via gravity. Unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Notes
Initially the nose is all charry and savoury with black olive, herbs and spice.. With air even a decant the wine explodes with beautiful sweet Strawberry fruits, black cherry liquor aromas over floral’s and fresh baked pastry. The pallet is refined and sumptuous think black fruit’s strewn with herbs and spice… Tannins are fine but coiled awash with briny olives. For lovers of cool climate Shiraz that brims with complexity.

If you want to see the the difference between Shiraz and Syrah, check this out. Plum, aniseed, white pepper, black cherry, such a vibrant perfume. It's bang-on medium bodied, riddled with exotic spice. Sweet black cherry flavours. Ultra fine tannin. Crisp, a little crunch through the finish. Nicely settled acidity. Moreish as. Do I have to order in dozens? No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!
Are there volume discounts? No, our pricing is designed to be the best in market already - no marking up and then discounting down! For very large orders (weddings, etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call.
Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.
Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.
I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 02 8376 8775 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.
Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.
Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
