About The Wine

Here is the first release of a premium reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from Remi Guise.

During his time working with Bruce Dukes at Domaine Naturaliste, Remi has gotten plenty of experience crafting top end, cellar-worthy Cabernet. His own entrant into the upper echelon of the region is wildly successful. It's slinky, packed with dark berry fruit and a wall of epic, moreish tannin, yet it remains supple and easily approachable in its youth also.

The nose is a seductive blend of violets, gum leaves and sweet currants - it's classic Margaret River from a rising young gun. With 97 points from James Halliday, it's a very serious debut.

About tripe.Iscariot

Remi Guise is starting something very compelling in Western Australia.

His idea for tripe.Iscariot centres around the thesis that from 'berry to stalk' the whole of the plant should be used in the winemaking process.

No waste, no 'cleaning up' of the wines. Driving to make the most character filled and unique wines that any site can produce.

The wines are fascinating and complex alt-stylings of undervalued Margaret River varieties.

Dig in, this is a project to keep a close eye on.

The Wine Front

"This is the top tier red from Tripe.Iscariot, a wonderful project out of Margaret River from the clever head of winemaker Remi Giuse. This one comes out of Wilyabrup. It’s a tale of elegance and power. Incredibly rich but refined flavours, fine ropes of cedar-laced tannins, exceptional length, that sense of precision that great cabernert wines can get. Aromas of cassis, bay and gum leaf, dark chocolate, cedar-clove oak and sea spray. At first the wine feels a little laden with oak but fruit character rises to the task and it feels more bedrock than feature – a caveat to hold off drinking for an hour or so. The tannins are the lingering thing – superb here. Wonderful expression." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

"From Wilyabrup, Houghton clone, open-fermented, 50% pressed to oak after 14 days, the other half kept on skins in a topped up and sealed fermenter for just under 100 days, aged in French barriques (60% new) for 15 months after blending. This has worked to perfection, giving the best of both worlds: flowery, fragrant, juicy cassis dances around the basement of ripe tannins and other fruit-based extract." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)
