About The Wine
If you are looking for a hot tip when visiting McLaren Vale, do yourself a favour and make the journey to Samuel's Gorge.
The cellar door looks out on one of the region's most stunning vistas and the brilliance of the wines only magnifies the experience. This is winemaker Justin McNamee's tribute to the Shiraz grape.
Shiraz, he says, "reins over our province and for that matter, most regions in South Australia. Its magnitude in accessibility ought not to be confused with the magnitude of fruit flavour. It has charmed the world because it delivers concentration but concentration on a multitude of levels."
It's a wine built around texture and balance, not out-and-out power. A more rustic and earthy representation of this famous coupling of variety and place. This is one of McLaren Vale's best-kept secrets.
About Samuel's Gorge
Samuel’s Gorge is one of McLaren Vale’s best-kept secrets. There, in his quiet neck of the woods, owner/winemaker Justin McNamee is on a mission to build “wines that are distinctly Australian with reference to the old world for texture, complexity and harmony.”
The Samuel's Gorge wines may be scarcely available but they are highly renowned. Shiraz and Grenache are considered his fortè, but he makes stellar examples of Tempranillo, Graciano, Gamay and more. Justin works with some of McLaren Vale's top vineyards, preferring to entrust the region's top growers to do what they do best, while he concentrates on crafting the wines together and greeting customers at his much-loved cellar door.
These are wines with a distinct personality and a rustic feel, from an adored cult SA producer.
