An interesting wine, unorthodox..... but excellent to drink. Expect the unexpected, as it were.

About the Wine

The second incarnation of this wildly experimental botanical Riesling from Yoko and Andries at Brave New Wine.

A fascinating interpretation of Great Southern Riesling here. This is fruit from the same vineyard as the Sunshine and Hercules, but with a twist.

It is fermented in old wood with a mix of native herbs and spices from the surrounding bushland. It takes this Riesling into a new stratosphere.

Complexity, harmony, individuality - this has it all. This glistening golden wine is absolutely spot on for its unique styling. Cannot recommend it enough if you want something uniquely delicious for your next wine-geek get together.

About Brave New Wine

It is a Brave New World and these are, in every sense, Brave New Wines. This range is brought to you by husband and wife duo Andries and Yoko Lüscher-Mostert. They are making painfully small amounts of fascinating, experimental and delicious wine from some superb vineyards in Great Southern.

With a vision of acquiring their own vineyard in the future, they are currently content to make wines that truly thrill them. These are natural wines crafted without additions but with bucket-loads of love and skill. Some of the most intriguing vino in WA and definitely a winery to keep an eye on.

About Great Southern

The Great Southern is the largest wine region in the country. Though more and more, the label “Great Southern” is becoming redundant. It is the sub-regional exploration of terroir which is distinguishing this region. From Frankland River to Porongorup, from Mount Barker to Denmark, the detailed and stylish wines emerging from these sub-regions are some of the most intriguing in the country.

No longer a “poor man’s Margaret River”, whether you love Riesling, Cabernet, Shiraz or Pinot, this stunning cool climate region will blow you away with the value and refinement inherent in everything it produces. And the good thing is, it is only getting better.

DDS review

Nailed it this year. Lemon oil, mint, so clean and bright. Gentle fluffy texture on a glassy Riesling sled of orange and grapefruit flavour. Lick of butter menthol in the mouth. Botanicals fairly subtle in this iteration but the balance is spot on. The real kick in botanical flavours come on in the finish. Pepper berries really make the most of the curtain call. Glugable to the nth degree with a cheeky wry smile. It's just a great thing to drink.

"Perfume of herbs and flowers, and I don’t know but kind of like a mix of lemon myrtle, lavender and thyme, with a dusting of pepper over a base of grapefruit and tangerine. Light chalky texture, tang and intensity of flavour pushed up with the botanicals, clean acidity, a subtle creamed honey gloss, and the crunch of herbs and amaro bitterness on a pretty long finish. What ho. Better this year, than last. The balance seems very good. An interesting wine, unorthodox, and maybe a little hard to rate as a result, but excellent to drink. Expect the unexpected, as it were." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
