2017 Adelina Field Blend

Clare Valley, SA

A new addition to the Adelina family - a lovely blend of Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro, Ugni Blanc, Roussanne and Carignan off Col and Jen's vineyard.

About The Wine

This is a new wine from Col and Jen at Adelina.

The Field Blend is an unusual blend of Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro, Ugni Blanc, Roussanne and Carignan. The vines (originally Cabernet) were planted back in 1976, then in 2015 Col and Jen grafted them over to this mad selection of red and white Rhone varieties. They picked the lot together, fermented them together and bottled about 100 doz of the end result.

It's a light but savoury red wine, with delicious bright fruit and soft powdery tannins.

A strange yet lovely new offering from this star Clare Valley producer.

About Adelina

Col McBryde and Jennie Gardner are Adelina. A pair of smart cookies, each rocking a PhD in microbiology and between them some pretty serious winemaking chops. Together, they have formed one of the Clare Valley's most exciting wineries.

From what was a small operation that began in 2002, slowly but surely the Adelina brand has been picking up steam.

There is a delicacy and purity inherent in every wine they produce. From opulent old vine Shiraz and Mataro, to one of the country's most excellent Nebbiolo and a set of scintillating Rieslings, there is a sense of class and refinement to the whole project.

These meticulously crafted, beautifully presented wines are just a joy to drink.

Critic Reviews

DDS review

Light, feathery crisp-edged red wine filled with cherry elixir aromatics, fresh herbs and a twist of amaro bitterness. There's great lively acidity which keeps it fresh, super fine tannins like the lick of a kitten's tongue. Finishestight and crunchy. Crackerjack wine. So unusual but flat out delicious. - Different Drop Wine Team
