About The Wine

From one of the family’s best Crus, La Marega, this Amarone is quite an intense style of wine that demands a certain level of commitment and passion from the winemaker. It takes an extreme quantity of fruit to produce the wine, with 5kg of grapes required to produce 1 litre of wine.

The elegance of the fruit comes through the finished wine however, as does the chewy intensity of the drying process: leather, resin, prune, raisin and tobacco and liquorice. Sleek and silky, offering cooked black cherry and dried cranberry notes, with silky tannins and spicy notes, with a herbal hint that linger on the long finish.

The mouthfeel is long, intense and very pleasurable.

About Le Salette

Under the sanctuary of Le Salette built in 1860 as a votive offering to Madonna when she freed their vineyards from the scourge of phylloxera, the vineyards have always been the property of the Scamperle family one of Valpolicella’s historical names, who proudly produce the wines of Le Salette.

It's a classical story, which tells about decades of farming and love for the land, and, above all, a passion for making wine. For generations the Scamperle family has dedicated itself to growing grapes, and to gradually increasing the number of vines. The vineyards have grown slowly and carefully, always respecting the local tradition, which is sensitive to nature and follows its rhythm to bring out the originality and characteristics of the grapes.

Le Salette have never stopped developing their product, basing their activity, their quest, on patient research, with quality always at their core. Today the family owns twenty cultivated hectares, situated across the Valpolicella Classica DOC.

Critic Reviews

"You can lose yourself in the bouquet of the 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico La Marega, as violets and lavender give way to blackberries, cherry sauce, white smoke and hints of clove. The textures are like pure silk, seamlessly coasting along a medium-bodied frame while displaying a dense core of mineral-tinged black fruits. There’s beautiful symmetry here, with residual acids buffering the 2016’s fine-grained tannins. It tapers off youthfully structured yet with cooling minty herbs contrasted by hints of mocha. This is stunning. La Marega is a single-vineyard expression from the Fumane sub-region within Valpolicella Classico." - Eric Guido (Vinous)
