About The Wine
This Sangiovese is about drinkability first and formeost.
Tony Fikkers explained to us that in the past he's had to share this vineyard with some other local Yarra Valley producers, meaning he hasn't always had full control of picking times and the general shape of the fruit. Different story though in 2016, and this Sangiovese is right where Tony wants it.
Medium bodied with lip-smacking fruit front and centre and savoury flourish through the finish, this is an insanely gluggable version of this sometimes tricky variety.
He likes his wines to offer "interest, 'boozability' and great value", and this emphatically ticks all three boxes. Yummo!
Fikkers is the one man operation of Yarra Valley winemaker Anthony Fikkers, and it's a name we will be hearing much more of.
Working with a range of local growers, and crafting the wines alongside Steve Flamsteed at Giant Steps, Fikkers is all about small batch, hand made wines made in unique styles and with minimal intervention.
You won't see the wines on many store shelves because there just aren't enough of them, but they are absolutely worth trying and add a great new colour to the Yarra Valley landscape.
