VS&B continue to kick goals with each new release. Here comes their Rosé, right on point.
This blend of Pinot Noir and Sangiovese is a must-try for lovers of dry, savoury Rose. It was made naturally with no additions except a little sulphur. Hand picked, basket pressed straight into, as Tessa puts it, “oooooooold barriques”.
Rosé continues to grow in popularity and with so many easy-to-love examples like this out there at the moment, it’s not hard to see why.
What It Tastes Like
Just blushed with partridge eye colour, it looks so great in the glass. Smells of rose petals, white strawberries and peaches. It glides through the mouth. Faint dusting of tannin frames the fresh berry goodness. The acid squeaky-clean. Little cool-mint flavour leaves the mouth refreshed. Great stuff, ridiculously smashable.

It’s super dry and yet its also perfumed. It has a prettiness. Rose petals and fresh red cherries, strawberries and spice. It’s both fleshy and direct; it runs with flavour but then pulls the draw strings tight. It’s perfect lunch drinking. A sophisticated edge but just plain delicious to drink.”

93 points. “I used this wine (without trying it first) for an event a few weeks back and was impressed. Wooed, even. It’s the sort of drink that I could smash all day without getting bored. Picnic wine, with textural complexity and interest.
Winemaking-wise it’s straightforward. A blend of Sangiovese (60%) and Pinot Noir (40%), it was handpicked, basket-pressed and wild fermented in old barrels, with SO2 the only addition. How you’d want a textural pink to be made.
What I like here is the gentle texture. There’s hints of pink fruit and creamy marshmallow, but the style is anything but sweet – it’s delicate, dry wine in every sense. Yet the mode is so gentle that you’d almost expect there to be sugar. Instead, just soft hints of red berries just to hat tip the Sangiovese and Pinot Noir at its core.
Crucially, this has that balance that Provence Rosé routinely nails, yet is a rare for Australian pink. At said event, every person enjoyed it to the woman/man, and I had to stop myself going back for seconds. Wine to drink, from a producer to watch.”

It’s 40% Pinot Noir from 800 ASL, 60% Sangiovese. All shale/sandstone soil (not granitic). Handpicked, crushed, basket pressed,wild ferment in ooooold barriques. A bit of MLF (probably), SO2 is the only add. Enjoy our Beechworth Pinky!
