The majority of the Traviarti vineyard is planted to Nebbiolo with a little Tempranillo in the ground also. These are baby vines at this stage, but the future looks bright for this Beechworth vineyard if the first release is anything to go by. The Rosso is essentially an early drinking Nebbiolo based wine with a tiny amount of Cabernet from the Fighting Gully vineyard thrown in to beef it up. It's meant to be drunk now, enjoyed in its youth while owner/winemaker Simon Grant waits for the vines to hit full maturity. The first release charmed Gary Walsh who said, "I like the style of it, and its intent. More to come too, I suspect." and like Gary, we are eager to what's to come from this site.

What it Tastes Like

"The gum leaf perfume rides high in the wine, for sure, but I like the freshness, shape and length of it, by way of compensation. Cherries – sour and sweet – aniseed, dusty old wood and a whiff of perfume. Medium bodied, clean lines, fine grained tannin, dusty wood and savoury flavours allied to the red berry and cherry fruit. Finishes dry and fairly long, with a dusty rusty pucker of tannin. I like the style of it, and its intent. More to come too, I suspect." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
