The Wine Farm is one of the most interesting wine ventures to pop up in Gippsland in recent times. An established vineyard (20-25 year old plantings) grown over 7ha in the southern nook of the region, only 50km from the coast, seemed like the ideal place to set up shop for Neil and Anne Hawkins. The unique expressions of single varieties Neil is producing from this block are causing quite the stir. The Wine Farm Riesling is picked for freshness and driving acidity, made with full malolactic fermentation and no additions bar a small amount of sulphur. It's a wild and vigorous version of Riesling which Mike Bennie dubbed a "Superb expression, unique and compelling" in his 94 point review, with the one caveat that "purists of riesling might be miffed." - it's not for the conservative drinker but those who take a more expansive view of the variety.

What it Tastes Like

_94 points. "Loaded with texture and interesting character, it’s the kind of riesling I really enjoy drinking. Linear in nature but with a nutty savouriness amongst the citrus and lemongrass character, there’s a saline trim and freshness that lingers and keeps the palate humming. It smells good too – citrus, apples, sea spray. Mouth after mouth I’m drawn back in. Time open and it almost gets a fino-like tang. Superb expression, unique and compelling, though purists of riesling might be miffed." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
