- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Shiny Wines is a new project from second generation Tasmanian winemaker James 'Shiny' Scott. After undertaking winemaking exploits across Australia and around the globe, James has established his own label in the Tamar Valley of Tasmania. The wines are crafted by hand with minimal intervention, with James looking to "let the Tasmanian vineyards and varieties speak for themselves." His 2015 Pinot Noir is bold, and full flavoured. The fruit is ripe, the flavours are long. It's a classy package from beginning to end.
What it Tastes Like
This is a robust style of Pinot. Cherries soaked in their juices, sweetly scented oak, bergamot and rosehip and woodspice. It packs a punch. It's a mix of raspberry and plum flavours with a hint of coco and vanilla, the tannins firm and assured. Looks good now but will look even better given time.
This Pinot was all picked from a single vineyard in the Tamar Valley. The 17 year old vineyard consists of 8 different Pinot clones, primary 114, 115, D5V12 and 777's. The grapes were hand picked and 30% whole bunch fermented. Basket pressed after 14+ days on grape skin. Maturation In 30% new and old french barriques and puncheons. No fining.

About the Producer
James ‘Shiny’ Scott is a second generation Tasmanian winemaker. Shiny Wines is his attempt at showcasing the premium fruit from some of the beautiful vineyards of the Tamar Valley. The wines are all made by hand, crafted with painstaking attention to detail and are produced in small batches. He is one of the new crop of Tasmanian winemakers venturing out on his own, it’s an exciting project that wine lovers should keep a close eye on.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
