The Cabernet Franc is a cellar favourite at Pyren Vineyard. As winemaker Andrew Joy explains, "It's an aromatic delight when harvested and highly anticipated in the winery each harvest." This single block Cab Franc is a succulent, ready-to-drink version of the famous Bordeaux variety. It's medium bodied, perfumed and brimming with plump, juicy fruit. A small portion of Shiraz (14%) from the Pyren vineyard was added to give the Franc a little something extra, but overwhelmingly the theme is a modern, charming interpretation of this fantastic variety. Gary Walsh called it "Dangerously easy to drink." which sums it up nicely.
What it Tastes Like
"Juicy raspberry and blackcurrant, dried rose and grassy perfume, plenty of spice and dried herb. It’s light and fresh, juicy in flavour, but not simple as such, and writes the pleasing herbal signature of Franc with pride. Bouncy and playful, with fine grained tannin tightening up the finish. Dangerously easy to drink. Well done!" - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

The '15 Little Ra Ra Franc is composed of two parcels. The first being a whole bunch carbonic maceration ferment and the other a hand plunged open ferment with lots of whole berry integrity. The whole bunch component was pressed to stainless and the open ferment pressed to old French Hogsheads. Blended with 14% estate grown Shiraz prior to filtration and bottling in Feb '16 Cabernet Franc for this wine is harvested from Block D. Some of the fruit from this site will be harvested in a field blend for the Yardbird Union release, with the balance going towards the Ra Ra Franc. It's an aromatic delight when harvested and highly anticipated in the winery each harvest.

The Pyrenees is renowned for its wines of presence and grace. Whether it is Syrah, Cabernet or Nebbiolo, the cool slopes of the Pyrenees consistently produce some of Victoria’s most remarkable wines. Classically, the wines are loaded with power and spice, with loads of flavour and great cellaring potential. One of the gems of Victoria wine.
C’Franc, as it is affectionately know, is often one of the more overlooked varieties from the Bordeaux region. Traditionally used as mainly a blending variety, this grape has been experiencing somewhat of a reinvigoration lately as more and more producers recognise its potential to create highly aromatic, crunchy and delectable reds in its own right.
