- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Brash Higgins CBSV is grown on the Omensetter vineyard, tended by Brad and Nicole, in their home of McLaren Vale.
This is McLaren Vale Cabernet with some spunk and personality. It spends 15 months in new and used oak, it’s un-tinkered with by Brad on its way to bottle giving a fleshy yet vital rendition of the variety from this part of the world.
A high quality yet low-yielding vintage for Cabernet in 2015, “The ideal 2015 vintage yielded excellent, full flavoured and balanced fruit, but minute quantities, producing a very limited parcel of 160 cases” according to Brad.
With 93 points from Mike Bennie, Brash Higgins fans, or fans of McLaren Vale reds in general, will simply love this release.
What It Tastes Like
“Lots going on in the bouquet with blueberry, currants, liquorice, salt bush and dark chocolate. Juiciness here, warm mulberry, a sheath of fine tannins, crisp acidity, lots of lingering fruit and spice flavour, so vibrant, plenty of the DNA of cabernet but in a more jolly way, but not without tannin and architecture. Bigger boned, compelling stuff.” - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
93 points. “Fruit grown on the family estate, Omensetter Vineyard, then matured for 15 months in French oak. Quite classic, but with the BH lift and freshness. No additions in winemaking, natural ferment. Lots going on in the bouquet with blueberry, currants, liquorice, salt bush and dark chocolate. Juiciness here, warm mulberry, a sheath of fine tannins, crisp acidity, lots of lingering fruit and spice flavour, so vibrant, plenty of the DNA of cabernet but in a more jolly way, but not without tannin and architecture. Bigger boned, compelling stuff.”

The fruit for the 2015 CBSV was hand selected at the Omensetter Vineyard. The ideal 2015 vintage yielded excellent, full flavoured and balanced fruit, but minute quantities, producing a very limited parcel of 160 cases
‘Perfumed nose; floral, sweet mint, blueberries and cassis, with spicy notes of crushed caraway seeds, Earl Grey tea, and Dutch liquorice. On the palate the wine is smooth and rich with the sweet earthiness of roasted root vegetables, the acidity of rhubarb and the dark lusciousness of black currants. Still, the tannins are layered, but approachable, finishing dry: pulling the tongue in then releasing it, keeping the wine feeling reserved and controlled.’ – Brad Hickey, Vinitor, November 2016.

About the Producer
Brash Higgins is the label of winemaking ‘yank’ Brad Hickey. Wildly original and top quality stuff!
The South Australian region of McLaren Vale is famous for its powerful red wines. Shiraz and Grenache have thrived for years in the Vale’s sandy soils. Nowadays, the region’s varietal diversity has majorly increased, the coastal location and warm climate proving perfect for a new wave of varieties from Italy, Spain and Portugal. The success of varieties such as Nero d’Avola, Tempranillo, Touriga Nacional, and Fiano has transformed McLaren Vale into one of the country’s most vibrant wine scenes. It’s where tradition meets innovation and it is producing some of the Australia’s finest wines.
Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the truly Nobel grapes. An inherently structural variety, Cabernet when handled gently can produce majestic wines of grace and beauty that mature gloriously with time in the bottle. Australian Cabernet runs the full gamut of style: from lighter, more finely boned versions from regions such as the Yarra Valley, through the exquisitely complex and firm wines of Margaret River to the intensely powerful wines from the Coonawarra, there is much to explore in the world of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon.
