About

About The Wine

While the Macedon Ranges may be home base for Place of Changing Winds, owner Rob Walters has also tended an organic vineyard in Heathcote for some years.

Here, the two worlds collide - a blend of the ethereal Pinot Noir from the Macedon site and Syrah from Heathcote - it's a sort of 'beauty and the beast' combination that has created a stunning, vibrant red of beguiling charm.

It's soft, slippery and super-smooth to drink. It's a fitting homage to the great red wines of Maurice O'Shea from the 1950s and 1960s.

It's the very model of a modern Australian red wine.

About Place of Changing Winds

The Place of Changing Years vineyard was planted by notable Australian wine importer, journalist, and author, Rob Walters.

Rob had hunted for a special site to plant in the cooler climes of Australia for many years. One day, esteemed grower/winemaker at Bindi, Michael Dhillon, called him and said, "Rob, I've found your vineyard."

The site sits at 500m above sea level in the Macedon Ranges. Rob has farmed it organically from the start. Planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay at an incredible average of 15,000 vines per hectare, this is one of the most exciting emerging viticultural projects in the country.

Rob is one of the great thinkers in Australian wine. You can expect great things as his project begins to blossom.

From The Producer

This is the only wine in the pack that isn’t 100% Estate-grown. From 2019, our Heathcote Syrah will become part of the POCW family. There will now be only a single Syrah and we will also make a Marsanne from the same site. Tradition is a synthesis of these two projects—Estate Pinot blended with some of our Heathcote Syrah.

Aged in a range of casks, mostly large format Stockinger, this is a vibrant, juicy ode to a historic style. Spicy and red-fruited, we believe that it’s an excellent introduction to the Place of Changing Winds range. We consider it ridiculous value, and we hope you feel the same way when you taste it.

No fining or filtration. Minimal SO2. Bottled by gravity, February 2020. 1,528 bottles produced.

Blend : Pinot Noir, Shiraz
ABV : 12.5%
Closure : Cork

The Wine Front

"It’s a beautiful piece of craft. Beautiful fruit, beautiful savoury nuances, finessed tannin, convincing in every way. Black cherries, juicy plums, cloves, peppers and smoked herbs. The flavours hit and then spread. The tannin eggs the spread of flavour on. The finish leaves you satisfied and wanting more as if it’s one and the same. It takes a little while to open up, as most of the best wines do; quality loves air. Or wind, in this case. This is a garden of a wine, fertile, growing, friendly, generous. It makes good company." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine.
