2020 Cascina Roccalini Langhe Nebbiolo
From the younger vines in Paulo’s estate, as the vineyard matures this is surely destined to become a Barbaresco DOCG.
Plump and full-bodied, like most of the Nebbiolo from the region there is a touch of richness to the fruit on the nose. The palate has that warm embrace of Nebbiolo tannin, gritty and mouthfilling. It’s rustic, maybe a little bit old school, but with no oak influence. The wine is raised in concrete instead, allowing the purity of fruit to shine through. Rose-hip, that iron-ferrous minerality and sweetish berry fruit character bring it all together.
Traditional Nebbiolo in all its glory, wrapped in a full body suit.

2019 Castello dei Rampolla Sangiovese di Santa Lucia
Sangiovese di Santa Lucia is 100% Sangiovese raised in amphora and bottled without sulphur. It’s a characterful wine that leaps from the glass with wild flowers, herbs, and berries. There is a juicy immediacy to the fruit and the energy is contagious, primary without being simple.
Are the notes of dusty red clay purely a trick of the mind? Who knows, and frankly, when a wine is this glorious, who cares? Drink this one whilst you cellar your Chianti Classico!

This is a gorgeous Sangiovese from the sunny south of Tuscany, crafted by a family with over two centuries of winemaking history.
It isn't handled with too much oak in the winery, resulting in a crisp red wine filled with flavours of cherries and strawberries. It finishes with a signature savoury, dry finish that this Italian variety is so well known for.
Perfectly balanced and an excellent accompaniment to meals. Delish!

From his front yard vineyard, this Barbaresco from Olek Bondonio comes off vines planted by his family over 50 years ago. It’s a pretty special vineyard with wines from his neighbour (Gaja) made from the same fruit selling for over $500 a bottle.
It's quite lively, with bursting red fruit beginning this wild journey. It has quite a rich character, almost confectionary in fact. It is, however, still Italianate Nebbiolo, and the grate of pumice stone like tannin is ever present, keeping the sweet fruit character in check. So fragrant still, and ready to drink.
This is old-school Nebbiolo with a natural bent, incredibly complex, with power and poise.

The Antoniotti Bramaterra Nebbiolo blend is such a fresh and enjoyable Piemonte red - it has immense quality at a very attractive price.
This Nebbiolo-dominant wine has brought some friends along, namely Croatina, Vespolina and a touch of Bonard -these are grapes that aren't often seen as straight varietals but are commonly found in the wines (even if they're not listed on the label).
This is from the Alto Piemonte region of Bramaterra, whcih is closer to Switzerland than Barolo. Unlike the Nebbiolos found in Barolo and Barbaresco, this is a lot more approachable when young; while there is sufficient tannin, it is more delicate and less mouth coating, due to thirty months in large oak barrels.
Red fruit predominates, with some notes of herbs and a spicy edge, making for an elegant and juicy wine that's drinking exceptionally well right now.

The Rio Albo from Ca'Rugate is produced from the best grapes selected out of their vineyards in the hilly area of Montecchiadi Crosara in the Valpolicella DOC.
Though full bodied, it’s quite juicy and pure, with cool acidity. Energetic and long, the wine lingers on its floral components and lip-smacking minerality.
Give this zesty Valpolicella a slight chill if that tickles you fancy, it’s great value, and a cracking wine.
