About The Pack
The idea for the Dr. Edge Oregon Pinot Noir project was a simple one: to replicate the same exploration of Pinot Noir that he has undertaken in Tasmania, but through the lens of the Willamette Valley in Oregon, USA.
There are four distinct expressions of the Pinot Noir grape here. Three are from individual vineyards (either certified organic or sustainable) and a fourth wine which is a blend of the three sites, similar to his Tasmania Pinot Noir in concept.
These are absolutely breathtaking wines, each a study in detail and finesse from one of the most talented Australian winemakers of his generation. Dredge only made minuscule amounts of these Pinot Noirs. There was around 50 dozen of each wine imported to Australia.
This four pack is extremely limited and will sell out.
2019 Dr. Edge Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
From his Adelaide home to his current Tasmanian address to Oregon and back, Peter Dredge, or Dr Edge, leaves a trail of wonderful wines and probably some empty beer bottles.
The Willamette Valley Pinot is the regional blend he makes in Oregon, and while elegant and pure, it is a fuller-bodied style than his Tassie releases.
50% whole bunch and carbonic maceration, 100% organic.
Flirty, herbal and floral this is simply delicious drinking. "Jolly hockeysticks" as Pete might say.

A third single vineyard string to Dr Edge's American bow, this is a wonderfully lifted, floral Pinot Noir with perhaps a little less grunt than previous wines.
Made in the same way as all his US (and Tassie wines) with 50% carbonic maceration. The site is found in the newly-created AVA The Van Duzer Corridor - AVAs are American Viticultural Areas, their vineyard classification system.
This is a cooler site, and with 2019 a cooler year than 2018, look for elegance, purity and persistence.
With bushfires and Covid there are no current plans for future releases, so jump in while the water is warm and the wine is available.

The Dr. Edge Oregon Pinot Noir project has been a long time in the making for Peter Dredge.
The idea was to replicate the same exploration of Pinot Noir that he has undertaken in Tasmania, but through the lens of the Willamette Valley in Oregon, USA.
There are three distinct expressions of the Pinot Noir grape here. The Dukes Family Vineyard in Amity, previously managed by friend Kevin Healy, supplies the fruit for the Eola-Amity Hills Pinot Noir. It's a cooler site for the region, in the south of Willamette Valley.
This is the finer, more focused wine of the three. It's red-fruited, floral, nervy and has the texture of fine bone china. It's stunning.

There are four distinct expressions of the Pinot Noir grape from the 2019 vintage, one more than in 2018. The Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir comes from the Azana vineyard owned by the uncle of Pete's friend Kevin Healy.
This wine shows immense power and athleticism, with raw mineral drive and a riotous perfume of cherries, strawberries and volcanic earth. It's smoky, it's seductive, it's pleasure in Pinot form.
This is a phenomenal depiction of Pinot Noir that will continue to reveal further layers of itself for many years to come.
