About The Pack
The Dr. Edge Oregon Pinot Noir project has been a long time in the making for Peter Dredge.
The idea was a simple one: to replicate the same exploration of Pinot Noir that he has undertaken in Tasmania, but through the lens of the Willamette Valley in Oregon, USA.
There are three distinct expressions of the Pinot Noir grape here. Two are from individual vineyards (either certified organic or sustainable) and a third wine which is a blend of the two sites, similar to his Tasmania Pinot Noir in concept.
These are absolutely breathtaking wines, each a study in detail and finesse from one of the most talented Australian winemakers of his generation. Dredge only made minuscule amounts of these Pinot Noirs. Each wine there was less than 70 dozen made. This three pack is extremely limited and will sell out.
2018 Dr. Edge Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir
"Chehalem Mountains. Such a good sounding place name. It’s in the northern tip of the Willamette Valley.
Charismatic, and immediately appealing for its distinct personality. It’s ultra-mineral, a smoky pumice stone character, which, in a way, puts me in mind of Etna, though it’s not that, but has a kinship. Texture is a highlight, gentle drag of dusty tannin, set in glistening strawberry juiciness, fruity, yet bony, with cool acidity and heaps good smoky length. It’s a wine of verity, dry wit, and uncompromising volcanic personality. Or something like that."

2018 Dr. Edge Eola-Amity Hills Pinot Noir
"I’ve been to Portland a few times. Nice town. Never ventured up county though. Eola-Amity is one of the cooler spots for growing Pinot Noir, apparently. In the southern bits of the Willamette Valley.
It’s rosy and spicy, with a crushed rock feel, red cherry and strawberry, and a slight smokiness. Medium-bodied, sappy and full of fresh cherry and red fruit, a smattering of aromatic herbs, tannin has a fine chalky feel offering sure grip, and then a spicy and floral vanilla-tinged finish of excellent length. So vibrant and engaging. Beautiful wine. Distinct sense of place, too."

2018 Dr. Edge Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
"I’m guessing this is a blend of the Chehalem and Eola-Amity vineyards, a la Dr Edge Tasmania. Well, like many a Barolo, the blend of vineyards works splendidly.
Red fruit, pepper, ash, fennel and roses. Light to medium-bodied, crisp and frisky, lick of pumice stone tannin, strawberry and raspberry flavour, juicy, mineral, dusty feel with succulence of fruit, and a long dried herb tinged finish. Such energy and verve. Outstanding. Something extra in the glass here, and a delight for lovers of fine Pinot Noir, no doubt."
