Charlotte Hardy makes wines with a lot of heart, and Fred Fiano is one of her most personal – named after her dad.
The fruit comes from Brad Case’s vineyard in Langhorne Creek, where Fiano thrives in the region’s warm days and cool nights. The grapes were pressed straight into French oak (about 10% new) for wild fermentation and full malolactic. It stayed on full solids in barrel right up until bottling, with only a touch of sulphur added – nothing else.
The result is textural and bright, with layers of pear, citrus and a touch of honey. It’s got richness without heaviness, kept in line by Fiano’s natural acidity and a bit of grip through the finish.
Deliciously versatile and tip top value.

"But oh the palate – textural, lightly creamy/nutty, fresh and vibrant... A cracking wine."

Nick Spencer has been championing Tumbarumba Chardonnay for two decades now, and the 2024 release shows exactly why he’s so committed to this high-country region.
The fruit comes from a unique vineyard in the Maragle Valley, sitting unusually low for Tumbarumba at 500 metres, but close enough to the Snowy Mountains to feel the chill each night as mountain air rushes through. Warm days, cold nights – it’s a recipe for flavour and freshness in perfect balance.
2024 was a standout season here, delivering fruit with richness and intensity without tipping into heaviness. Nick hand-picked and pressed the grapes into a mix of French oak puncheons and amphora, where the wine rested for 14 months on lees. It’s a style that gives depth and texture but keeps everything finely tuned.
This is Chardonnay with drive and personality – elegant but not shy – and a wine that will sit comfortably at the table now while also rewarding a few years in the cellar. Another strong reminder of why Nick is one of NSW’s leading voices for cool-climate wines.
"A wine that not only marks 20 vintages of Chardonnay from this incredible region for me personally, but may well be one of the finest expressions we’ve ever produced."

John Hughes’ deep love of Riesling shines through once again in this superb Eden Valley release.
The 2025 No. 4 is sourced from selected vineyards across the southern ranges of Eden Valley, including the High Eden subregion of Flaxman Valley and sites near Angaston and Springton. In a year defined by record dry conditions, searing heat, and a challenging frost event, these sites yielded fruit of stunning purity and intensity.
Made in a dry style, this Riesling captures Eden Valley at its finest: elegance, perfume, and slate-like minerality. The bouquet leaps with fresh lime, passionfruit, and rosewater, layered with fennel seed, star anise, and a hint of rain on warm slate. The palate is finely structured, bursting with lime juice and elderflower, drawn long by the vintage’s hallmark crisp acidity.
Another deadset bargain for any Riesling lover from John & Belinda Hughes.

"The palate is sharp and focused... The finish is both electric and precise. Excellent."
- Ryan Montgomery (James Suckling)
Pinot Gris (or Grigio) has come a long way in Australia. From humble beginnings in southern Victoria, it was the first 'alternative' variety to officially graduate the AAVWS and be seen as a mainstream variety.
It's easy to see why when you look at the Mulline Pinot Gris. This is definitely more Gris than Grigio, with lifted florals, ripe stone fruits and a bit of spice coming through.
The wine also saw a small amount of skin contact to provide texture, which rounds out the rich palate and makes this incredibly more-ish.

"100% pinot gris from Modewarre on the Surf Coast in Geelong. A bright salmon copper. The nose features an attractive amalgam of cranberries, freshly cut pear, Mediterranean herbs and a little honeydew melon. Just as good on the mouth-filling, savoury, pithy and long palate. Top stuff."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)
"A homage to the great Sauvignon blanc's produced in this country!"
- Gareth Belton (Winemaker)
This is an excellent example of Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc from Gareth Belton.
It showcases a great balance between ripe fruit, barrel-fermented textural elements and the bright natural acidity that is the signature of the region.
Gareth makes an effort to elevate this from just a simple fruit-driven white wine to something with richness and nuance through the careful but clever use of oak.
Refined, complex, and beautifully put together, it sit comfortably amongst the big boys of the Australian Sauvignon scene... watch out Sorrenberg!

"This is as good as it gets for Australian sauvignon blanc. Big on impact and deliciousness, the palate is a web of many skeins. Vanilla wafer, grilled white peach, Greek yogurt and lemon in all forms (from preserved segments to curd). It's decadent, but there's caution at hand, so as to not trample the fruit. Grapefruit, Pink Lady apple and a smattering of sea salt at the close. I can't lie, I couldn't tip this glass."
- Katrina Butler (Halliday Wine Companion)
Since taking the reigns at his family winery, Mike De Iuliis has shaped a modern range of site-specific wines that represent the very best of the Hunter.
Hunter Valley Semillon is one of Australia’s most iconic wine styles, and the 2019 De Iuliis Aged Semillon is an excellent value example of why this wine style continues to captivate. Released after five years of careful cellaring, this wine showcases the magic that time brings to Hunter Semillon.
The 2019 Aged Semillon is sourced from the sandy creek flats of the Garden vineyard. It's a complex wine with delicate citrus notes, a soft, honeyed richness, and a bright acid core. The 2019 vintage produced low yields but exceptional quality, resulting in a wine that is golden and luscious yet still lively and fresh.
This Semillon is perfect to enjoy now, though it promises to evolve beautifully over the next decade.

"Ready to drink now with an engaging mix of freshness and aged characters. A lovely acid core defines the fruit flavours; however, the overall vibe of the wine is one of softness and delicacy. There are subtle smoky/nutty tones on the nose and palate with moderate length. Further cellaring is not required. Open and enjoy. Fabulous for the price."
