Description

"A homage to the great Sauvignon blanc's produced in this country!"
- Gareth Belton (Winemaker)

This is an excellent example of Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc from Gareth Belton.

It showcases a great balance between ripe fruit, barrel-fermented textural elements and the bright natural acidity that is the signature of the region.

Gareth makes an effort to elevate this from just a simple fruit-driven white wine to something with richness and nuance through the careful but clever use of oak.

Refined, complex, and beautifully put together, it sit comfortably amongst the big boys of the Australian Sauvignon scene... watch out Sorrenberg!

"This is as good as it gets for Australian sauvignon blanc. Big on impact and deliciousness, the palate is a web of many skeins. Vanilla wafer, grilled white peach, Greek yogurt and lemon in all forms (from preserved segments to curd). It's decadent, but there's caution at hand, so as to not trample the fruit. Grapefruit, Pink Lady apple and a smattering of sea salt at the close. I can't lie, I couldn't tip this glass."
- Katrina Butler (Halliday Wine Companion)

96 points - "Saline, rich and mouth-filling, this wine underwent complete mlf and spent eight months in French oak, both in barrique and hogshead. Vanilla wafer, grilled white peach, Greek yogurt and lemon in all forms (from preserved segments to curd). It's decadent, but there's caution at hand, so as to not trample the fruit. 94 points - "Vivid straw colour introduces a wine that is gentle, soft, elegant and, all the while, flavoursome. It’s a saugignon blanc that feels good, tastes good, and that you really just want to settle in with. Wax, preserved lemon, passionfruit, a gentle creamed honey note, a spray of smoked herbs and the most delicious/gorgeous lilt to the finish. Beautiful." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

    Reassuringly lemony

I was sceptical. It differs from the usual sav blanc and refreshingly so.

    It’s light lemony and lovely.

    Super Savvy

This is a beautiful wine which our Epicure Club drank with Cullen Skunk soup.

    It was a great match.

    Highly recommended.

Gentle Folk

Gareth and Rainbo Belton are the Gentle Folks, both in name and in sensibility. They are gentle, soulful people, both originally seaweed experts, who turned their hands to farming grapes with an organic and sustainable approach. Today they are crafting some of the most legitimately exciting and exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Adelaide Hills and are firmly rooted in the upper echelon of Australia's lo-fi wine scene.

Their wines cover multiple sub-regions across the Adelaide Hills. There are no additions during the winemaking process, save for a splash of SO2 at bottling to keep the wines pristine as they travel from the Beltons' home to yours. The worlds of fine wine and natural wine collide in the Gentle Folk range. They are beautiful people making increasingly breathtaking wines that you definitely want to check out.
