Description

John Hughes’ deep love of Riesling shines through once again in this superb Eden Valley release.

The 2025 No. 4 is sourced from selected vineyards across the southern ranges of Eden Valley, including the High Eden subregion of Flaxman Valley and sites near Angaston and Springton. In a year defined by record dry conditions, searing heat, and a challenging frost event, these sites yielded fruit of stunning purity and intensity.

Made in a dry style, this Riesling captures Eden Valley at its finest: elegance, perfume, and slate-like minerality. The bouquet leaps with fresh lime, passionfruit, and rosewater, layered with fennel seed, star anise, and a hint of rain on warm slate. The palate is finely structured, bursting with lime juice and elderflower, drawn long by the vintage’s hallmark crisp acidity.

Another deadset bargain for any Riesling lover from John & Belinda Hughes.

97 points - "Tightly wound and pure aromas of lemon pith, grapefruit rind, slate, passion fruit, fresh herbs and white flowers. The palate is sharp and focused, with bright acidity and a firm line of minerality carrying notes of mandarin and chalk. The finish is both electric and precise. Excellent. Drink or hold. Screw cap." - Ryan Montgomery (James Suckling)

97 points - "A beautifully natural aromatic blossom and minerals with superb fruit acidity and flavour to follow. Effortless and sublime. A great expression to celebrate the region. Drink now–2040" - Andrew Caillard MW (Vintage Journal)

97 points - "A beautifully natural aromatic blossom and minerals with superb fruit acidity and flavour to follow. Effortless and sublime. A great expression to celebrate the region. Drink now–2040" - The Vintage Journal

95 points - "Riesling sourced from the High Eden subregion of the Eden Valley and produced by that freak of riesling John Hughes. High-tensile and wonderfully focused as always. There are aromas of freshly juiced limes, green apple and grapefruit with a dab of soft spice, crushed quartz, sliced fennel, orange blossom, Christmas lily and ozone. Tightly coiled, with a crystalline focus, it zooms across the palate, leaving a limey wake. Finishes bone dry, nervy and lip-smacking." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

93 points - "Dried herbs and flowers on the nose, trace of grated lemon peel; the palate is intense and focused with lively green-apple acidity and a long and intense farewell. Near enough to dry, and very appetising." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

2025 Rieslingfreak #4

2025 Rieslingfreak No. 4 Eden Valley Riesling is an absolute standout and is a benchmark of the Eden Valley Dry style.
The Nose -It bursts out of the glass with super-expressive perfume. You’ll get intense aromas of freshly squeezed limes and pink grapefruit with a classic Eden Valley mineral finish.
To drink, it has bright acidity and is full of concentrated lime juice. It is tight and vibrant with an incredibly long and persistent finish. Effortless and precise.
An outstanding example of a classic Australian style Riesling, crafted with passion and purpose.
An absolute bargain at this price, brilliant with seafood.

Great priced riesling

Good, easy drinking riesling, pairs well with most foods, slightly on the sweeter side, but lovely rounded finish.

from a flagon of 'Hock' on the beach after a day catching 'blueys (late 60's) then scouring phillip white reviews for Riesling, I've ended up here! and what a glorious place it is...

A lovely wine & a lovely price 🤗

Made from selected vineyards across the southern ranges of Eden Valley. It brings together the elegance, structure and acid drive of High Eden (Flaxman Valley) with intense flavour and rich aromatics from Angaston and Springton.

The bouquet bursts with intense aromas of fresh limes, passionfruit, and rosewater, with spicy undertones of fennel seed and star anise. The elegant structured palate shows a slate-like minerality beneath punchy lime juice and elderflower cordial. Tight acidity drives the palate length through to a fine, crisp finish.

Rieslingfreak

Rieslingfreak founder & winemaker John Hughes is quite simply making the most comprehensive, high-quality and remarkably priced range of Rieslings in the country.

Growing up in the family Riesling vineyard in Clare Valley, which John still farms today, Riesling simply runs through this man's blood. John, with the help of his talented winemaking wife Belinda, make only Riesling - not a bottle of any other variety - and they've honed their craft to a level unmatched in Australia.

They are two of the nicest people you're likely to meet, so wholeheartedly committed to their vision and craft, and we are proud to have worked so closely with them for so many years. These wines rank amongst the very best value to be found anywhere in Australia, and we give them our fullest recommendation. Enjoy!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
