Description

Céline and Frédéric Gueguen have been on a serious roll lately, but the 2024 vintage throws things back to a more classic era. While the last few years in Chablis have been warm and generous, 2024 was cool and wet - the kind of vintage Frédéric says their grandfathers would have recognised. It means we are back to that racy, nervous energy that put Chablis on the map in the first place.

The fruit comes from 40-year-old vines spread across key villages like Chichée and Préhy, rooted in those fossil-rich Kimmeridgian soils that give the wine its saline kick. They also include fruit from high-quality lieux-dits like Malantes and Pargues, which adds a nice layer of depth to the blend.

Winemaking is kept clean to let that terroir scream. It’s all done in stainless steel with full malolactic fermentation and regular lees stirring. The result is pure, vibrant and properly mineral. You get yellow orchard fruits and a touch of nuttiness, but the driving force here is that mouthwatering acidity and steely tension. It is fruity but precise - a modern Chablis with an old-school soul.

    Refreshing

Light on fruit, however it is pleasing on the palate with a refreshing aftertaste.

Fruit for the Gueguen Chablis is sourced from seven hectares of 40-year-old vines grown around Préhy, Chichée, Courgis and La Chapelle-Vaupelteigne. Fruit from the well-regarded lieux-dits of Malantes and Pargues (situated between the Montmains and Vosgros 1ers Crus) is also included. The vineyards mainly face southwest on Kimmeridgian soils with a layer of Jurassic clay and limestone littered with small oysters and fossils. Vinification and maturation occur in stainless steel, with regular lees stirring and full malolactic conversion.
