Description

In 1984, Jean and Chantal Berthet-Bondet purchased a vineyard that had spent the past half-century in neglect.

They built a small winery with an eye to producing elegant sous-voile wines. Since then, they have become important members of the community, with Jean becoming mayor of the town and also being named president of the Syndicate of Producers of Château-Chalon.

A softly spoken, gentle soul, Jean's wines are as precise as and complex as the man himself.

This is his sparkling wine made in the tradition of a Cremant. It's full-bodied, rich and cut with the region's signature saline kick. A slightly wild, yet beautifully composed sparkling wine that is perfect if you're looking for fizz with a point of difference.

    Delicious point of difference

Opened with friends at Christmas. Those would claimed not to like champagne style loved this wine.

Elegant, well structured without the mouth puckering impact of many champers. Excellent quality.

Chantal and Jean Berthet-Bondet, both agricultural engineers, settled in Château-Chalon in 1984 and the first grape harvests took place in 1985. Not being born either of the winemaker family, the acquisition of plots and know-how is done gradually. The farm currently has 11 hectares of vines and converted to organic farming in 2010.

The house which houses the estate dates from the 16th century and is supposed to be the home of a steward of the Château-Chalon abbey. This house known as the "chatelain" or "prieuré" is adorned with arms surmounting the entrance door representing noble families Franche-Comté to which many abbesses of Château-Chalon belonged. The property was also the location of the shooting of the Spanish film in 1965, Bernard Clavel's novel adapted by Jean Prat for television.
