2018 Rippon Jeunesse Pinot Noir
The Jeunesse Pinot Noir comes from the less established vines on Rippon vineyard.
Owner/winemaker Nick Mills sees this as a more youthful expression of his family site. It's a brighter, more ethereal style of Pinot Noir as opposed to the older vine wines that have a great level of depth and gravitas.
Don't mistake that for a drop in quality, this is a gorgeous wine, one that many estates would love to have as their flagship, it's just a more adolescent voice of this great New Zealand vineyard.Read more about 2018 Rippon Jeunesse Pinot Noir
2019 Luna Estate Eclipse Pinot Noir
"Delicate, almost ethereal pinot noir with floral, violet, red cherry, spicy oak and a hint of mineral flavours."
NZ Wine of The Week (The Real Review, 8 Sept 2021)
The Eclipse Vineyard Pinot from Luna Estate is among the finest Martinborough Pinots you may not have come across. The vineyard sits of the gravel-dominant soils of the Martinborough Terrace and produces a wine of depth, structure and intense stony minerality.
Some whole bunch inclusions and some new French oak maturation add gravitas to the beautifully poised violet and red plum fruit. Savoury herbal and spicy notes also in the mix.
A memorable, toned and approachable Pinot that really caught our eye.
No winery additions apart from a touch of sulphur.Read more about 2019 Luna Estate Eclipse Pinot Noir
2016 The Elder Pinot Noir
After finding their dream patch of land overlooking Martinborough’s Te Muna Valley in 1996, Mike and Margaret Hanson intended to plant olive trees on their little patch of paradise.
A friend and neighbour, Bill Brink, told them they'd be mad to not plant grapes. Happily, they followed his advise. With the help and guidance of Martinborough Vineyard's viticulturalist, Nigel Elder, they now are owners of one of the great Pinot producing vineyards in the region.
This picturesque vineyard imbues incredible density in the fruit which creates powerful, persistent Pinot Noir that is polished and effortless.
This is a standout Pinot Noir for the Martinborough region. Ideal for the cellar yet supple enough to be enjoyed on release.Read more about 2016 The Elder Pinot Noir
2018 Prophet's Rock Home Vineyard Pinot Noir
The Home Block Pinot Noir burst onto the NZ wine scene when its first release, the 2005 vintage, was named in Bob Campbell's top 10 Pinot Noirs in Central Otago.
Since then it has been one of the most consistently highly rated Pinot Noirs in the region.
The Home Block Pinot vines yield intense fruit, winemaker Paul Pujol mustering all he has learnt from his time at noted Oregon producer Rex Hill and in Chambolle-Musigny, Burgundy, to harness the power of his site.
It's an Old-World-Meets-New-World style of Pinot Noir. Structured, savoury and a killer in the cellar.Read more about 2018 Prophet's Rock Home Vineyard Pinot Noir
2019 Novum Pinot Noir
What a lovely elegant expression of NZ Pinot from Novum, the new(ish) guys on the Marlborough block.
Will and Rachel, the Novum winemaking duo, have selected parcels from two cool vineyard sites in the Southern Valleys to create a linear, refined wine that has great deftness and length.
The nose is all bright cherry and pomegranate, with a hint of earthiness. In the mouth there is a pure line of supple fruit with a savoury edge. We're guessing some truffly, autumnal flavours will develop with time - can't wait to try this in a few years.
A Marlborough Pinot of delicate class.Read more about 2019 Novum Pinot Noir
2018 Chard Farm Tiger Pinot Noir
The Tiger is not very tigerish; more of a bunny rabbit with well-groomed fur if truth be told.
This bunny rabbit is delicious though, a velvety, light-framed, beautifully detailed Otago Pinot Noir, with fruit coming from the cool slopes of the Tiger vineyard in Lowburn.
Though it would respond well to time in the cellar, we loved this subtle refined style at an early age.
Joint top scorer in the Gourmet Traveller Wine South Island Pinot tasting in June 2021.Read more about 2018 Chard Farm Tiger Pinot Noir
