Description

Margan Wines has long been one of the Hunter Valley's most loved producers, but with young winemaking star Ollie Mrgan joining dad Andrew in the cellar in recent years, the quality and excitement of the wines coming from this address has gone to another level.

Nestled up in Broke a short drive out of the main Hunter tourist drag, the unique volcanic soils that Andrew and Lisa Margan started their estate on in 1996 lend themselves to producing flavoursome, clearly structured wines of power and personality.

The farming is all organic and sustainable, and whilst they produce some of the Hunter's most popular classics in Shiraz, Semillon and Chardonnay, it's their work with 'alternative' varieties such as Albarino and Barbera that perhaps brings the most excitement.

This Mixed Pack gives you the perfect introduction to the unique Margan range of wines, at an outstanding price!

Your pack includes:

  • 2025 Margan White Label Chardonnay
  • 2025 Margan Breaking Ground Albarino
  • 2025 Margan Breaking Ground Barbera
  • 2025 Margan BC4 Shiraz

2025 Margan White Label Chardonnay

The White Label Chardonnay is the estate's go-to Chardy, built for people who want classic Hunter quality without the heavy, old-school oak cloak. It's grown on the family’s signature volcanic soils, turning out a bright, refreshing style that punches way above its weight.

The 2025 season played right into this fresher style, handing the team clean fruit with plenty of natural tang. They gave it a gentle press and let it ferment in older French oak barrels, intentionally avoiding any new wood. This gave the wine a bit of texture on its lees without burying the crisp fruit under a wall of butter and vanilla.

You get plenty of white peach, citrus zest, and a faint hint of toasted nuts on the nose. The palate is clean and direct, carrying a nice splash of stone fruit before a bright line of acidity sweeps through to keep things crisp and dry.

An easy-going but seriously well-made drop that is all about affordable, everyday drinking.

2025 Margan Breaking Ground Albarino

The Breaking Ground Albarino is Ollie Margan’s pet project and a brilliant example of how well this Spanish variety thrives in the Hunter. The vines went into the family’s Ceres Hill vineyard in 2014 on a sandy river flat, and they’ve been farmed organically for the past few years.

Ollie leans right into the grape’s natural brightness, creating a texturally interesting, modern drop that doesn't cost the earth. The 2025 vintage turned out clean fruit with a stack of natural, zesty punch. Ollie fermented the juice using wild yeasts in old French oak puncheons and ceramic eggs, letting it sit on the skins for a short spell. This clever approach coaxes out a beautiful, waxy texture and subtle grip without losing any of the grape's signature line of freshness.

The nose is incredibly aromatic, bursting with white peach, orange blossom, and a distinct briny, sea-spray character. On the palate, it is lively and layered, matching its juicy citrus and stone fruit flavours with a lovely, slippery mouthfeel and a crisp, salty finish.

A fantastic, boundary-pushing white that delivers drinkability, interest and value in equal measures.

"This is the best albarino I have tried in Australia, year on year. There, I said it."
- Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

2025 Margan Breaking Ground Barbera

The Breaking Ground Barbera is Ollie Margan’s exciting take on this Northern Italian variety, proving how well it handles the Hunter's warm climate. Sourced from the estate's red volcanic soils, this is all about Ollie’s desire to move away from heavy, high-alcohol reds towards something far more smashable. It is a creative, forward-thinking red that brings a completely fresh, light-footed alternative to the table.

The 2025 vintage delivered immaculate fruit, packing a heap of varietal spice and Barbera's naturally electric acidity. Ollie kept things unforced in the cellar, utilizing a gentle fermentation and aging the wine entirely in older, large-format oak casks. This approach completely skips any heavy oak impact, keeping the focus entirely on the bright, high-energy primary fruit.

The nose is incredibly vibrant, throwing out a mix of sour cherry, dark plum, and a nice kick of dried Italian herbs. The palate is medium-bodied and crunchy, loaded with juicy red berry flavour that flows over a smooth bed of fine tannins before a bright wave of acid cleans it up.

This is a brilliant, food-friendly red that swaps out heavy-handed structure for pure, vibrant drinkability.

93+ points
"It’s a distinctive and different expression of Barbera, and very good too."
- Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

2025 Margan BC4 Shiraz

The BC4 Shiraz is a standalone release that highlights the Margan's desire to shift away from old-school, heavy oak towards a brighter style. Sourced from sustainably managed estate vines on ancient volcanic red clay, this bottling focuses purely on a contemporary, light-footed expression of Hunter fruit.

The 2025 growing season delivered ideal conditions, offering pristine fruit with great aromatic purity and bright natural acidity. Ollie included a portion of whole bunches during fermentation to introduce a lively, spicy character, with maturation in older, large-format oak casks letting the vibrant primary fruit take center stage.

The nose is really open and expressive, showing dark cherry, wild blackberry, black pepper, and a fragrant lift of purple flowers. On the palate, it feels supple and medium-bodied, balancing its juicy core of dark berry flavour with fine tannins and a crunchy, refreshing finish.

This is a brilliant, forward-thinking Hunter Shiraz that swaps heavy, old-school weight for high-energy drinkability.

93+ points
"Almost Italianate in a way. Comes up well in the glass, and builds some weight. Very interesting. I really like it, and I like what they’re doing here too. Yum."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
