Description

The BC4 Shiraz is a standalone release that highlights the Margan's desire to shift away from old-school, heavy oak towards a brighter style. Sourced from sustainably managed estate vines on ancient volcanic red clay, this bottling focuses purely on a contemporary, light-footed expression of Hunter fruit.

The 2025 growing season delivered ideal conditions, offering pristine fruit with great aromatic purity and bright natural acidity. Ollie included a portion of whole bunches during fermentation to introduce a lively, spicy character, with maturation in older, large-format oak casks letting the vibrant primary fruit take center stage.

The nose is really open and expressive, showing dark cherry, wild blackberry, black pepper, and a fragrant lift of purple flowers. On the palate, it feels supple and medium-bodied, balancing its juicy core of dark berry flavour with fine tannins and a crunchy, refreshing finish.

This is a brilliant, forward-thinking Hunter Shiraz that swaps heavy, old-school weight for high-energy drinkability.

93+ points
"Almost Italianate in a way. Comes up well in the glass, and builds some weight. Very interesting. I really like it, and I like what they’re doing here too. Yum."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

93+ points - "Vines planted in the 1970s, on skins for 40 days in concrete, then gets 12 months in a single concrete tank. BC4 is the block number. 110 dozen produced.

Raspberry and red cherry, a dusty and nutty character, and yes, has a sort of concrete smell to it too, along with floral notes. It’s bright and medium-bodied, a sappy crunch, dried herb and flowers, a dusty feel to tannin, juicy in red fruits, a little earthy too with red liquorice, pepper and an amaro twist on a finish of good length. Almost Italianate in a way. Comes up well in the glass, and builds some weight. Very interesting. I really like it, and I like what they’re doing here too. Yum." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

The BC4 is back! Part of our clonal project at Timbervines, where we grafted over several of our 1960's-planted Shiraz vineyard to various clones of Shiraz taken from old-vine vineyards in Pokolbin. This particular block shows a core of fruit that has generosity and structure, even as a young wine.

PROFILE
This wine is a medium-bodied and savoury expression of Shiraz, and provides an elegant alternative to the typical regional style. Showing raspberry, plum and cherry notes. It has loads of detail, is textural, with svelte, sandy tannins.

FERMENTATION & ÉLEVAGE
The winemaking is inspired by time spent in Barolo where wines remain in contact with skins post fermentation. This wine was fermented in a concrete tank to allow greater (yet slower) access to oxygen and sealed up for three weeks after fermentation had concluded. As a result, the tannins take a truly unique shape and the colour retreats slightly out of the wine. Grapes are fully destemmed and fermented with ambient yeast in concrete tanks. The wine remains on skins for 40 days before pressing and malolactic conversion, then matured for 12 months in a single concrete tank prior to bottling.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
