Description

Cabernet is one of the great noble grapes of the world. We excel in Cabernet in Australia in three primary regions: the Yarra Valley, Margaret River & Coonawarra. These six wines hail from these regions and are arguably the most collectable of each of their respective homes.

Huge reviews, limited availability and six iconic names, this is a pre-made cellar of the country's finest Cabernets.

  • 2023 Mount Mary Quintet
  • 2023 Yeringberg Cabernets
  • 2023 Wantirna Estate Amelia Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
  • 2023 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 2023 Grosset Gaia
  • 2023 Cullen Diana Madeline

2023 Mount Mary Quintet

The iconic Mount Mary Quintet is one of the jewels of the Yarra Valley.

This 2023 release is another benchmark for the Middleton family, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, all grown side by side on their historic vineyard in Lilydale. Despite a cool and low-yielding season, the fruit reached perfect balance, producing a wine of focus, precision and quiet power.

The palate is medium-bodied and composed, showing layers of blackcurrant, cherry, and red plum, lifted by violet, cedar and bay leaf. The tannins are fine and long, seamlessly integrated into the wine’s elegant frame. It’s not about weight - it’s about shape, texture and persistence.

Winemaker Sam Middleton has once again delivered a Quintet that’s both immediately captivating and destined to evolve beautifully for decades. If you know this wine, you know what to expect - purity, poise, and the kind of effortless balance that only comes from a truly great site.

Drink now with time in a decanter, or watch it unfurl gracefully over the next 30 years. A modern Australian masterpiece.

2023 Yeringberg Cabernets

This is the flagship of the iconic Yeringberg estate, and in 2023 it is a masterclass in the "sculpted yet relaxed" style that Sandra and David de Pury have perfected. Following a season defined by slow ripening and mild conditions, this is a wine of easy harmony rather than brute force.

The blend is 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot (13%), Cabernet Franc (12%), Malbec (8%), and Petit Verdot (6%). The fruit was fully destemmed and fermented in small open-top fermenters with hand-plunging, before spending 21 months in French oak barriques (40% new).

It's a beautiful wine, as usual, from Sandra. On the nose, it is plush and inviting, offering classic Yeringberg aromas of blackcurrant and violet mingled with lifted notes of black olive, graphite, and cedar. The palate is fine, supple, and perfumed, showing serious depth without heaviness. Structure but softness too here, framed by a delicate line of refreshing acidity that promises a long life ahead. It is approachable now, but will evolve beautifully over the next couple of decades.

"A wonderfully complex and perfumed bouquetit will provide an enormous amount of enjoyment over the next 10–15 years."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

96 points
"A soft, bright wine from a cool vintage that is constructed with a soft hand."
- Ryan Montgomery (James Suckling)

2023 Wantirna Estate Amelia Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot

The Amelia is a classic Wantirna blend, led by Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a small amount of Petit Verdot. Much of the fruit comes from vines planted in 1963, with Petit Verdot added from a 1989 block. The old vines are dry-grown, their roots reaching deep into clay soils for moisture - a key to the wine’s depth and balance.

The 2023 vintage sits around 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. It was aged in French oak and bottled after careful blending.

The wine shows blackcurrant and red plum fruit, with notes of tobacco leaf, violet and gentle spice. The tannins are fine and even, supported by bright acidity that gives freshness through the finish.

It’s approachable now but built to age gracefully for at least fifteen years.

97 points
"A diaphanous sheath of fruit deftly draped over a compact and composed framework. Lovely fine acid line and microfine tannins that sit effortlessly in the wine."
- Nick Ryan (The Weekend Australian)

97 points
"It's just as enticing on the perfectly pitched, medium bodied, elegant and very persistent palate. Everything is in place for a long and productive life!"
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

2023 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon

Moss Wood is a pillar of Australian wine, and the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon is a monumental release. This marks the 50th anniversary of the estate’s first vintage, and the buzz surrounding it is significant; it’s being hailed as one of the finest iterations in the wine’s storied half-century history. Sourced entirely from the original, unirrigated Wilyabrup vineyard, this is one of the definitive expressions of Margaret Cabernet.

The 2023 season offered a gift to the Mugford family: a long, cool, and perfectly steady ripening period. This allowed the fruit to reach total tannin and flavour maturity without the stress of extreme heat. The result is a wine of incredible poise and aromatic detail. Winemaking remains strictly traditional, with 18 months in French oak (15% new) serving only to frame the exceptional fruit rather than mask it.

The result is a wine of incredible poise and aromatic detail. The great Cabernets of Moss Wood have a gravitas to them; they have balance and finesse and are world-class at their best. The 2023 is destined to be one of the greats.

While it has the generosity to be enjoyed now, this is an epic Moss Wood built for a 40-year evolution. It is, quite simply, a legendary release of a legendary wine.

Well, guess what? It has. This is such a beautiful example of what Moss Wood Cabernet is all about... This is simply stunning. I do not believe there has been a better Moss Wood."
- Ray Jordan (Wine Pilot)

"No doubt many winelovers have been eagerly awaiting this wine, one of the last of Margaret River’s big guns from the stunning 2023 vintage... Balance, length and structure are all world class. A take-me-now-Lord wine if ever there was one. The great 2023 vintage strikes again. Is this the best wine Moss Wood has ever made? It certainly must come very close..."
- Ken Gargett (Wine Pilot)

2023 Grosset Gaia

Jeffrey Grosset’s Gaia vineyard is one of the most dramatic sites in the Clare Valley - perched at 560 metres, rugged, rocky, and consistently delivering some of the most refined Cabernet in the country. Since its first release in the 1980s, Gaia has stood as Grosset’s vision of what Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc can achieve at altitude: elegant, structured, and built for the long haul.

The 2023 vintage is already being spoken of as one of the great Gaias. Yields were down, but what was picked has extraordinary concentration. The blend - around 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc - spent 18 months in French oak barriques (45% new), emerging with a compact core of cassis, redcurrant and black cherry, lifted by violet, cedar, and graphite. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied but unrelenting, with fine, mineral tannins and a cool, slate-like freshness that sets Gaia apart from more opulent Australian Cabernets.

Critics are unanimous. Tyson Stelzer (98 points) praised its “powder-fine tannin structure” and monumental longevity, while Huon Hooke (96 points) highlighted its elegance and fine, powdery tannins. Winsor Dobbin (97 points) called it “a ballerina dancing across your tongue,” while James Suckling (96 points) noted its depth, energy and integration.

This is a Cabernet blend that can be enjoyed young for its precision and vibrancy but will also reward decades in the cellar. With just 400 dozen made, the 2023 Gaia is one of Grosset’s most compelling releases yet - a benchmark for South Australian Cabernet.

98 points
"The cool, low-yielding 2023 harvest has presented Grosset's lofty, exposed Gaia vineyard in particularly captivating and dramatic detail!"
- Tyson Stelzer

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
