About The Pack
The Giant Steps Single Vineyard wines are benchmarks for the Yarra Valley.
Winemaker Steve Flamsteed and his team manage several different individual vineyards across the region, here are three of his finest Chardonnays that showcase individual sites.
Each wine is made almost identically with each wine whole-bunch pressed to barrel and left unsulphured for 10 months before being gently gravity racked to bottle. Pristine, elegant, exquisitely well balanced Chardonnays are the end result.
These are right at the top of the pile for Yarra Valley Chardonnay. A true treat for any serious Chardonnay drinker and a masterclass in the expression of terroir.
2020 Giant Steps Applejack Vineyard Chardonnay
The Applejack vineyard has long supplied the fruit for the most sought-after of the Giants Steps Pinot Noirs, now the same may be true for Flamsteed's Chardonnays.
The first release of the wine came from a hunch that there might be something special about the fruit from this block in 2017, it would seem that Flamsteed's hunch was right.
The 2020 looks every bit as good - a perfect balance struck between fruit weight and flavour with bell- clear acidity. Stocks are limited and this won't be around for long. Dive in while you can.

Wombat Creek is the newest addition to the Giant Steps repertoire of Single Vineyard Chardonnays. This release is simply smoking.
It's a tightly wound, almost nervy style of Chardonnay. Focus is the through line of the 2020 Chardonnay releases from Steve Flamsteed and none show more focus than the Wombat Creek.
This is a blistering wine, one for the lovers of the leaner, energised modern Yarra Valley Chardonnay style.
Exquisite work from this master of the Yarra.

The Sexton vineyard is owned by Phil Sexton, the founder of Giant Steps.
He purchased the property due to its location, tucked between some of the most famous estates in the Yarra Valley in the foothills of Coldstream, the site perfect for producing first-rate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The Sexton release may be the most deliciously drinkable of the Giant Steps Single Vineyard Chardonnay wines whilst in their youth. It has an ease of drinking, inbuilt complexity and the promise of something more given time.
A great place to start if you want to get a feel for the Giant Steps Chardonnays.
