Description
William Fèvre is one of the most recognised names in Chablis, but don't let the scale of the operation fool you. Under the guidance of winemaker Didier Séguier, they operate with the meticulous detail of a small grower. This is particularly evident in their Petit Chablis, which, unlike the vast majority of wines at this level, is harvested entirely by hand.
The 2024 vintage was, frankly, a battle. A combination of hail in May and relentless mildew pressure throughout summer decimated yields across the region, with the estate averaging a tiny 9 hl/ha. It was a year that separated the good farmers from the lucky ones. Séguier's team deployed a massive team of 200 pickers to harvest rapidly in late September, ensuring what little fruit they had was brought in pristine.
Despite the drama of the growing season, the result in the glass is one of pure consistency. Sourced from vines on Portlandian limestone, this is sharp, stylish and remarkably clean. It offers bright citrus, white flowers and a distinct hit of sea spray. The acidity is fresh but well-integrated, giving the wine a zesty, mineral-driven energy that screams for fresh oysters. It is a triumph of viticulture in a tough year.
