Sourced from vines planted in 1971 and 1976 on Kimmeridgian limestone laced with blue clay, this Premier Cru has a stature and depth that comfortably rivals the top-tier labels of the region.
Samuel brings a bit more muscle to the table here, using 600-litre oak barrels (25% new) to frame the fruit. This is where you see his trademark thumbprint at its most harmonious: a silken, seamless texture wrapped around a mineral core of surgical precision. The oak is never the headline; it’s a subtle caress that serves to elevate the purity of the fruit.
The 2023 is a standout, showing a vivacious bouquet of limes, flowers, citrus peel, and orange blossom. On the palate, it’s masterfully balanced, driven by a quicksilver line of acidity and a persistent, saline finish. It’s n elegant, racey Chablis that confirms Samuel Billaud’s spot among the absolute elite of the appellation.
