Description

The Barossa Valley isn't exactly known for producing light and bright crunchy reds, but it takes innovative producers like Steve Crawford at Frederick Stevenson to push those conventions around.

In Steve's words, "this is the wine you just drink - smash against the wall - and walk out."

This is Cinsault, Syrah and Mourvedre from the biodynamically farmed Ahrens vineyard in Vine Vale with a portion of conventionally but sustainably farmed Grenache from the Hongell vineyard on the Western side of the Barossa.

It's bright and perky, a little untamed and loaded with personality.

The perfect entry into the world of Frederick Stevenson.

    Easy drinking

Nice and easy drinking red blend, put it in the fridge for a bit

8% Cinsault, 33% Grenache, 23% Syrah, & 6% Mourvedre.

Cinsault - Ahrens in Vine Vale

Grenache - roughly equal portions - Krondorf (Hongell young vines), & Ebenezer (Hoffmann)

Syrah - Ahrens in Vine Vale

Mourvedre - Hoffmann in Ebenezer

A light, fun expression of the vintage that was. Cinsault's light fragrance & crunchy acidity, Grenache donating volume and vibrant fruit, Syrah lends some darkness and spice, with Mourvedre to round it out with a little leather and gaminess.

Cellar temp in the cooler months for a fuller & spicier expression.

Serve slightly chilled over the warmer months for a 12pm, 5pm and / or midnight elixir.

Frederick Stevenson

Steve Crawford started his Barossa label under the pseudonym of Frederick Stevenson whilst working at a larger winery.

Now, flying solo, Steve's minimalist, vibrant vinos are garnering plenty of attention for the lighter shade of the region that they portray.

He looks for vineyards that are farmed organically or sustainably, believing that healthy vines make better wines. And little tinkering in the winery preserves the natural brightness and personality of the sites he works with.

Steve is an exciting producer and firmly part of the Barossa avant-garde movement.
