Best Gamay in the World. That was the verdict of the International Gamay Competition's 14th edition in Lyon, where 181 judges assessed 811 competing Gamay wines from around the globe. Domaine de Colonat's Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes - this wine - took the title!
Moulin-à-Vent is arguably the most powerful and age-worthy of the Beaujolais crus, and this cuvée draws on three distinct terroirs within it: Les Grenèriers, Bois Pontdevaux and Les Maisons Neuves. The vines range from 65 to 92 years old, grown on granite-derived alluvial soils rich in clay.
80% destemmed, 14 days of gentle maceration, then six months in concrete tanks. No oak. The approach keeps the focus entirely on the fruit and the site, with the natural power and richness of Moulin-à-Vent not needing any help in the winery to shine through.
This is the richest and biggest of the Colonat lineup, with a complex and layered web of cherry, blackberry, plum and strawberry jam. It has a tantalisingly silky mouthfeel, with round but firm tannin and cleansing acidity. The balance of everything is spot on again.
Great to drink now but would love a few more years in the cellar too. Share with friends and some grilled meats. Absolutely beautiful old vine Gamay.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.
Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.
What that means for you:
- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate
Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.
**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.
