The 2022 Etna Rosso Calderara Sottana is Tenuta delle Terre Nere’s love letter to volcanic power, crafted from ancient vines rooted in the hard, rocky soils of Randazzo.
From old vines that are 50-100 years old, this wine channels pure volcanic energy, drawing depth from Calderara Sottana’s unique pumice-stone soils.
It’s aged for 16 months in French oak, which smooths and deepens its structure without taming its wilder side. Expect layered aromas of red cherry, wild herbs, and ash, with a palate woven from smoky plum, dark cherry, and a briny hint of mineral.
This was named the number one wine in James Suckling's comprehensive tasting of the Etna region with 99 points. Incredibly limited and available for only a short time, this is one of the finest wines in this coveted Italian region.
