Description

Dave Fletcher’s Faset bottling is a deeper, darker cut of Barbaresco – a little more serious, a bit more built, and probably the most structured wine in his line-up. Faset’s soils mirror some of the region’s big-name neighbours – Asili, Rabajà, Rio Sordo – and you can see that pedigree in the glass. This is where Barbaresco starts to take on some of Barolo’s weight and depth, but still carries the aromatic lift that makes the region so compelling.

It’s all destemmed fruit, fermented wild, and aged two years in older 300L barrels. No tricks, just quiet, confident winemaking. The result is a wine that hums with red fruit, spice and dried flowers, but underneath there’s grip and drive that tells you this’ll go the distance if you give it some time in the cellar.

For fans of Nebbiolo with a bit more shape and presence, this is a great place to explore. It’s proper wine, but still distinctly Fletcher.

"Cherry and raspberry, hazelnut and roast peanuts... pumice stone grip to tannin... pulls itself in nicely on a finish of good length."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

93+ points - "Cherry and raspberry, hazelnut and roast peanuts, spice, dried flowers. It’s nutty and red fruited, a pumice stone grip to tannin, quite some flesh and power, some orange juice tang to acidity, slightly broad, but pulls itself in nicely on a finish of good length. Needs some time." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

“Faset is on the same soil as Roncaglie but is just slightly cooler, always kind of picked a little bit after Roncaglie. So if I said is the Faset has the densest biggest structure of the Cru’s I make, more Barolo than Barbaresco.” – David

Fletcher

Dave Fletcher fell in love with Nebbiolo early in his winemaking career.

After some time spent in the Nebbiolo Mecca, Piemonte, Dave moved his whole family and life there to pursue his passion for the variety. He took up a position as winemaker at famous producer Cerrato and still makes the wines there to this day.

His own label has been a slow labour of love to get off the ground but now it's in full swing. Through sourcing select plots of fruit from local growers in Barbaresco and planting his own vines, his small eponymous label is now taking flight.

Precious little of the Fletcher wines make it to Australia and they sell out in a flash. If you're a true enthusiast of Nebbiolo, you need to get to know Dave's wines, they offer brilliant value for money.
