Description

Mont-Redon have been making benchmark wines in Châteauneuf for generations, but this Lirac – from vineyards just across the river – offers up a more laid-back expression of that same southern Rhône DNA. It’s a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, all destemmed, then fermented slow and cool over a few weeks. A mix of tank and barrel ageing adds some texture without over-complicating things.

There’s plenty of depth here – red and black fruit, spice, a touch of wild herb – but it’s all really well judged. Tannins are ripe but not heavy, and the finish is clean and fresh. It’s one of those reds that feels super complete without being flashy about it. Good with food, good without. No need to overthink it.

"(vat/casks) dark red; the nose has a salted tone, with a hint of violets and gently aromatic black fruit on the inside, a touch of charry oak. The palate serves comfortable content with a tasty centre, bonny juice in the fruit with a ripe level of tannin accompanying it. It’s a well organised, gourmand Lirac rouge, has southern virtues of round, textured appeal, the fruit lasting well. The oak on the finish needs to drop back, so leave until mid-2024.     Very Nice GSM

    Excellent value and very approachable. Well rounded smooth and easy drinking. Blackberry and cherry with medium tannins.

    A baby version of their chateauneuf du pape. Drinking well know but lots of life left.

70 % Grenache, 20 % Syrah and 10 % Mourvèdre totally de-stemmed with ferment up to 3 weeks and aged 2/3 in tank and 1/3 in barrel for 18 months before assembling and bottling and ageing another 4 months under cork before sale. These vineyards were purchased in 1997.
