Burgundy is often lauded as the supreme wine region and, when wines like this are produced, there really is no counter argument. This has got to be one the most beautiful, balanced and expressive Chardonnays we have seen. Ever.
Corton Charlemagne is a Grand Cru in northern Burgundy. This particular site has an average vine age of 40-45 years - old enough to have their own character but young enough to retain a youthful freshness. There is an indescribable joie de vivre throughout this wine, with its delicate array of citrus and stone fruit, chalky minerality and oaky complexity. It's refined and it's beautiful, speaking quietly of its terroir with a mesmerising charm. Truly stunning.

Maison Champy was founded in Beaune, 1720. While this doesn't make them the oldest house in Burgundy, it does make them the oldest to use fruit from both estate grown and independent growers. This practice is common in the region today, and Champy was some 300 years ahead of the curve.
In fact, it's almost impossible to separate this grand house from history. In the 1860s, Louis Pasteur conducted his experiments in pasteurisation in their cellars, which date to the 15th Century, and the family are recognised by the French government as Living Heritage, along the likes of Chanel and Louis Vuitton.
It should go without saying, then, that their wines are testaments to an enduring family dedication to passion, skill and ambition. Their wines are still hand crafted and aged in their own cellars, making them a true icon not just of French culture, but the of world of wine.
