Description

The Rabaja is the signature wine of the late, great Giuseppe Cortese.

His is recognised as one of the best value examples of one of the top crus of Barbaresco. It is a traditional, architectural Nebbiolo that will age beautifully for the next two decades or more.

It's classic, fragrant, concentrated Nebbiolo with a sea of dried flowers, red cherries and blue fruits. The tannins firm and sure. The power waiting to unfurl over the coming years.

For a long-term cellar Barbaresco, this is a very safe bet.

96 points, "Enticing scents of blue flower, crushed mint, berry and vineyard dust form the nose along with a whiff of new leather. The firmly structured, focused palate shows cherry marinated in spirits, black raspberry and liquorice alongside a backbone of fine-grained tannins. It’s well-balanced, with vibrant acidity." - The Wine Enthusiast

95 points, "Red and black fruits, dried flowers and mint, a spicy earthiness too, kind of stony and dried leafy. It’s medium to full-bodied, ripe and dark, some liquorice richness here, black tea and bergamot, again that stony feel to tannin, pushing towards baked plum, but fresh and spicy on a finish of succulent dark fruit and tea leaf tannin. Has a distinct ‘mineral’ feel to it, as an afterthought. Wait." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

94 points, "The 2019 Barbaresco Rabaja is a powerful, austere wine that is going to need a number of years to come around. I very much like the energy, but readers should not plan on opening a bottle any time soon, as the 2019 is seriously tannic and shut down at the moment. It’s a gorgeous Barbaresco that shows the more elegant hand that defines the approach today." - Antonio Galloni (Vinous)

93 points, "With fruit from the village of Barbaresco, the 2019 Barbaresco Rabajà is glossy and bright with dried berry, cassis, aniseed and candied orange peel. This silky wine offers medium length, silky tannins and easy freshness." - Monica Larner (The Wine Advocate)

93 points, "Sliced strawberry with citrus and rosebush aromas that follow through to a medium body with firm, chewy tannins. Yet, there’s polish and finesse to it. Needs time to soften. Best after 2025." - James Suckling
