About The Wine

The Koerner brothers are running head on at Clare Valley wine. They've put together one of the region's most dynamic ranges of wine, investigating unsung pockets of the area with energy and creativity. It's exciting stuff.

The La Corse is not your average Clare Valley red. Here the boys combine Sangiovese and Sciaccarello with a splash of Malbec & Grenache, to create a vibrant, mischievous red with epic drinkability.

Whole berry ferments for max vitality and ageing in ceramic egg and old oak for a pure, breezy feel.

This is a new look Clare Valley red.

About Koerner

The Koerner brothers, Damon and Jono, are on a mission to bring the classic wine styles of the Clare Valley into the modern day.

They play with a mix of 'classic' Clare Valley varieties such as Riesling, Cabernet and Malbec and a suite of alternate varieties that show a different side of this iconic Australian wine region.

With fruit sourced from their own family vineyard and a move toward more contemporary winemaking, utilising terracotta and ceramic for fermenting and making as little additions as possible in the winery, it's easy to see why their star is on the rise.

As Mike Bennie recently wrote, "Some of the most interesting, delicious wines in Australia are emerging, and the reinvention and sexing up of Clare Valley is apparent."

Additional Info

From The Producer

60% Sangiovese, 20% Grenache, 15% Sciacarello & 5% Malbec. Numerous batches of fruit where sourced from Vivian, Gullyview and Basshill Vineyards. The fruit was picked over various days through out vintage and in the winery was 100% destemmed.

Whole berry ferments occurred using indigenous yeasts, they where plunged once or twice a day and generally lasted 2 weeks. Following this the fruit was pressed to tank where it settled off large lees for a few days and then was transferred to ceramic amphora and old oak for 3 months of maturation.

The wine was then blended to tank where it sat on fine lees for a further 5 months. Following this, a small sulphur addition was made and the wine was bottled without fining or filtration.

DDS review

Purple jubes, black currnant lollies. A silky, juicy, elemental feel. Fine grainy tannin with a tight, fresh feel. Red fruits galore and a crisp texture. Great drinking. Not crazy complex but floads of fun. - Different Drop Wine Team

The Wine Front

"A lightish, fresh red produced from Clare Valley sangiovese, grenache, sciacarello and malbec. What a mouthful, except it isn’t, instead, more of the reinvention of Clare via the Koerner vision of texture, freshness, vitality in wine. Get onto these lads.Sumptuous perfume of exotic spice, rose hip tea, dried berries and faint game meat. Similar to taste with crunchy texture, brisk acidity, lively fresh fruity feel and a cool restraint and chew to finish. Absolutely smashable stuff but with way more going on than deserves such approach. Unreal drinking." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Good work!

Koerner La Korse Red 2018. This is a bright fresh lightweight blend of Sangiovese, Sciaccarello, Grenache and Malbec. I'm not sure what the Malbec is doing in there but the whole ensemble reminds me of Corvina/Rondinella blends from northern Italy. I rate this wine as a very classy quaffer which brings me to the price. It's not all that competitive with other light reds both local and imported.
