Description

The Koerner brothers are running head on at Clare Valley wine. They've put together one of the region's most dynamic ranges of wine, investigating unsung pockets of the area with energy and creativity. It's exciting stuff.

The La Korse is not your average Clare Valley red. Here the boys combine Sangiovese, Grenache and Sciaccarello with a splash of Carignan & Malbec to create a vibrant, mischievous red with epic drinkability.

This is a new look Clare Valley red.

91 points - "The 2023 La Korse is a blend of 53% Sangiovese, 19% Sciacarello, 13% Grenache, 12% Vermentino, 3% Carignan. The effect is a wine that is bright and spicy, cooling and menthol, with rose petals and cherries, white strawberries and red apples. It's got clarity and life, with edges and shape and a little chew, with flavors of amaro bitters—as many of these Koerner wines show—a flow of dried thyme and mint, pomegranate, rosemary and arnica." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Front)

    Pleasant drop

This a lovely, easy drink read without skimping on quality or interest. Love everything these guys do. Having been to Corsica they definitely represent their style well, even if not using the standard varietal of the island.

    Koerner sangiovese blends

All of the recent Koerner releases are enjoyable, but the sangiovese blends in particular have a savory and slightly sour flavor profile, and incredibly fresh and enjoyable.

Koerner

Growing up in Clare Valley, Damon Koerner developed a deep connection with the region's rich wine history. In 2014, he and his brother Jono launched Koerner Wines to bring fresh energy to their home turf, creating vibrant, modern wines that feel both distinctly Clare and cutting-edge.

Koerner Wines is all about blending tradition with innovation. Damon’s organically-minded approach and contemporary techniques – like fermenting and ageing in clay amphora – result in wines that are bright, food-friendly, and ideally suited to Australia’s climate.

Using his family’s Gullyview vineyard alongside nearby plots, Damon works with Clare Valley classics like Riesling and Cabernet, while also embracing more unique varieties like Carignan, Sciacarello, and top-notch Vermentino. His wines showcase Clare Valley’s diversity, revealing unexpected sides of this iconic region. With a recent expansion into the Adelaide Hills, the range continues to grow and mature.

As one of Australia’s most celebrated young winemakers, Damon Koerner is redefining what Clare Valley & Adelaide Hills wines can be. If you haven’t tried Koerner Wines yet, it’s high time to explore these excellent South Australian vinos.
