Felton Road

Felton Road is one of the peak performers in Central Otago. Planted in 1991, this New Zealand icon is built on an uncompromising pursuit of quality. This winery has made a name for itself producing incredible wines from some of the world's southernmost vineyards. The winery's ethos is deeply rooted in the belief that great wine begins in the vineyard. Felton Road's vineyards are known for their unique terroir, which mirrors the famed soils and climate of France's Burgundy region. This distinctive environment, combined with the low rainfall and cool temperatures of Central Otago, provides the perfect conditions for cultivating premium Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Riesling. From their inaugural vintage in 1997, Felton Road has consistently received accolades, including "Stunning Debut," "Best New Winery," and "Pinot Noir of the Year." The winery's success is a testament to the skill and dedication of winemaker Blair Walter, who, along with viticulturist Gareth King and winemaker Mike Wolfenden, employs a gentle, minimal intervention approach to winemaking.

In the cellar, Felton Road uses a gravity-fed system to handle the grapes delicately, ensuring the finest expression of the vineyard's character. Indigenous yeasts, minimal sulfur, and natural malolactic fermentation are key components of their winemaking process, all aimed at preserving the purest essence of the fruit. The winery's Pinot Noirs are unfined and unfiltered, with the Chardonnay program increasingly following suit, emphasizing clarity and authenticity in every bottle.
