Alberto Nanclares and Silvia Prieto are the definitive high-wire act of Rías Baixas, producing Albariños with a level of energy and laser-like precision that is rarely seen in the region. Based in Cambados, the duo manages dozens of tiny parcels of ancient, pergola-trained vines, farming organically in a corner of Spain where extreme Atlantic humidity makes such a task a constant battle.
In the cellar, their winemaking is daringly hands-off: no commercial yeasts and rarely any malolactic fermentation. Instead, they rely on extended lees ageing to provide just enough texture to balance the variety’s naturally bracing, electric acidity.
The resulting wines are pithy, tense, and intensely saline - legitimately some of the finest examples of Albariño we've ever tasted here at DD. By prioritising mineral drive over simple tropical fruit, Nanclares y Prieto have elevated the variety into a serious, age-worthy category that makes these some of the best examples of this grape on the planet.
2024 Nanclares y Prieto Soverribas Albarino
Alberto Nanclares and Silvia Prieto are producing some of the most exciting Albarinos in Rías Baixas, and 'Soverribas' is often the most complete wine in their cellar. It comes from a single parcel of 35-year-old vines in Meaño, where the inland location offers a touch more fruit weight and textural richness than their more bracing coastal bottlings.
The winemaking is all about patience. After a gentle whole-bunch press, the wine ferments naturally in a large, 2,200L old French oak barrel. It spends nine months resting on its lees, which builds a beautiful, slick texture without masking the wine’s natural energy.
This is top of the tree Albarino - it is high-pitched and concentrated. You get ripe citrus, honeysuckle, and that classic sea-spray character, all backed by a deep, stony minerality. It’s a sophisticated, "grown-up" Albariño that holds its own against great Chablis. Absolutely stunning.

"Ultra fine and lacy, crisp and so pure, saline minerality draped delicately on green apple, exotic lime, yuzu, fine mineral water and slate and river pebble notes... Epic wine."

"A wine of vintage, the expression of the year, is the idea. Crisp edged, frisky, juicy core. Scents and flavours of dried apple, salt bush, sea spray, faint fino notes just so in there, wild fennel, lime and lemon. Pretty as with a saline bent and slate-ish texture, finishing long and ticklish with bright minerality. A touch of hazelnut savouriness. Delicacy and intent here. Delicious."

"Albarino, and a masterful producer of the grape. Rias Baixas locale. A cooler-ish year, but with a heat spike through the finish. A lot of producers picked earlier, hence.Tense and fine boned, saline and puckering, squeaky even. Fragrant with its citrus blossom notes, similar in terms of flavour, a crackle of lime, a crunch of green apple, all so fluid and slinky. The finish a sizzle of brine. Just darn beautiful."

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.
No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.
Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.
What that means for you:
- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate
Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.
**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.
If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
We’d love to help you out! Email is usually best but if it’s something urgent or you just really want to have a yarn about wine, food, or even the meaning of life, give us a call — we’re here for you.
