Description

Peter Schell's Papillon is one of the most gluggable reds in the Barossa Valley!

The Spinifex wines cover a wide spectrum, from rich, full-throttled old vine Shiraz all the way to this, a light bodied, energetic Grenache Cinsault blend made for easy day-time drinking.

These styles are certainly in vogue but as usual, winemaking wizard Schell’s winemaking know-how elevates Papillon far beyond your average light red. Sourced from old, dry-grown vines (many over 70 years old) across the Barossa and Eden Valleys, it combines purity of fruit with layers of complexity

Papillon is one of our go-to's and just unbeatable value. What a producer Spinifex is.

"I just love this wine. The word 'smashable' shines with overuse, but the Papillon consistently offers such an ease of drinking that it is just a no-brainer every year... A brisk mineral cadence and a sweetly balanced, chalky tannin array. It is just bright, joyous drinking. Bonkers value here, too."
- Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

"This is a delicious wine. It’s light and frisky but sweet and rusty. It has character but it also has a straight-forward juicy drinkability... Personally I’d buy and drink this in a heartbeat."

95 points - "I just love this wine. The word 'smashable' shines with overuse, but the Papillon consistently offers such an ease of drinking that it is just a no-brainer every year. Spacious, airy and mid-weighted, this year sees a blend of grenache 75% and cinsault 25%, and it's a raspberry and citrus blossom-flecked beauty with hints of exotic spice, tendrils of twiggy nuance (hello, 100% whole clusters), cranberry, charcuterie, dried citrus rinds and distant flowering herbs. A brisk mineral cadence and a sweetly balanced, chalky tannin array. It is just bright, joyous drinking. Bonkers value here, too." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

92 points - "This is a delicious wine. It’s light and frisky but sweet and rusty. It has character but it also has a straight-forward juicy drinkability. It tastes of redcurrant, musk, raspberry, peanuts and sweet spices, with rust and floral notes lifting off. There’s an attractive run of grapey tannin and a general vibe of “light but insistent”. Personally I’d buy and drink this in a heartbeat." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Customer Reviews

Pretty and aromatic – bright red currant, raspberry, red rose petal and dried spice perfume. Light, fresh palate – spiced red cherry and tart red plums fruit flavours lead dried spice and delicate dried herb and spice notes on a finish kept nervy and fresh with plum skin like acids and fine, light tannin.

Spinifex Wines

Spinifex are one of the 'New' Barossa's true pioneer producers. Husband and wife team Peter Schell & Magali Gely have extensive experience in southern France, which proves the inspiration for their unique wines made from predominantly Rhone varietals.

Spinifex was on the front line of the new wave of Barossa producers. Peter's wines brought a new sensibility to the region, they were lower in alcohol, concentrated but elegant, and balanced to perfection. He takes the art of blending into the realm of the virtuoso. There are few wineries who deliver refinement and poise from the Barossa Valley like Spinifex.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
