Description

There are only pockets of Aligote around Australia, and King Valley is producing some of the very best examples.

Produced by the talented Chris Catlow at Sentio, this Aligoté comes from the Darling Estate Vineyard in Upper King Valley. Aligoté, traditionally from Burgundy, France, has found a new home here, and Chris's passion for Burgundian-style wines shines through. With experience with Burgundy's Benjamin Leroux, Chris learnt first-hand how to get the best out of these Burgundian varieties.

Chris has conjured a lovely, complex dry white that is slippery, waxy, bright and racy. It sees some oak, as the grape does in its Burgundian homeland, but this cedary, nutty character really enhances the orchard fruit dense core.

Awesome off-piste but classically drinking white.

"It slides, it glides, it twists and pinches, but most importantly—it satisfies."

95 points - "I must admit, I was looking forward to tasting this wine. Let’s go!

This wine will have your attention with the faintest first whiff. It smells delicious! Lemon tart, lemon meringue, apple and oat biscuits, notes of nutty pastry, salty pistachios. Then plenty of zest, pink grapefruit, pomelo, a touch of healthy bitterness, and spicy ginger. This wine has acidity for a spine, minerally texture and a great flavour drive, all in one hit. It slides, it glides, it twists and pinches, but most importantly—it satisfies." - Kasia Sobiesiak (The Wine Front)

94 points - "Fruit sourced from Darling's Koombahla vineyard, Whitfield. Pressed, settled in tank, fermented on fluffy lees in small and large French oak and clay egg for six months. While aligotè has been called 'Burgundy's other white grape,' make no mistake, this King Valley charmer is fully deserving of the drinker's respect. Each vintage, it reveals greater concentration and complexity. With citrus, peach, stone fruits, hazelnut and baking spices, it comes with an elegance and restrained composure. Carries impressive drive and length, with a lick of almond nuttiness to close." - Jeni Port (Halliday Wine Companion)

A real gem

Pale yellowish to straw colour. Interesting nose. Nothing jumps out. Certainly not fruity. A bit nutty, trace of ginger, musky like a wet blanket but in a good way. Palate is full of minerals and savoury flavour. Nutty with pastry and biscuits. A touch or honey and some residue bitterness. A very full and satisfying wine with not much hint of fruitiness unlike say a Sauvignon Blanc. A long finish that keeps you coming back for more.

A very interesting wine

My wife loves this. Has higher residual sugar on the palette balance by crisp acidity. A winner

Fascinating wine

Echos of Chardonnay with ripe fruit characteristics, coats the palate with a fresh citrus and acidic finish. Very moorish. Also grabbed the Sentio Neb at dinner - some good wines from this label.

White flowers. Green pear. Fennel seed.

Fruit sourced from Darling's Koombahla vineyard in Whitfield - the oldest vineyard in the Upper King (planted in 1970). They grafted a small section of their vineyard to Aligoté in 2015 after getting bud wood from Hickinbotham of Dromana, the first vineyard to plant Aligoté in Australia back in 1985. Currently, they have the largest production of the variety in Australia.

We love its upfront nature; it’s bright, fresh, and full of vitality.

An everyday wine, keep one at the ready in the fridge.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
