Description

Matt Large’s curiosity has taken Praeter well beyond its Nebbiolo beginnings, and this Savagnin is a particularly interesting example. His work with flor, the layer of yeast that grows across the wine’s surface, gives it a savoury complexity backed by plenty of fruit.

The grapes come from the dry-grown Magpie Block in Southern Fleurieu, which Matt has managed organically since taking it on. The east- to northeast-facing slope has sandy loam, ironstone and quartz over limestone and clay.

For this release, Matt used two flor strains selected through his experience with the style. The wine spent 18 months beneath that yeast layer, without topping up or other intervention, developing texture and flavour as it aged. It's Jura-by-way-of-Fleurieu, or something like that.

Lemon and ripe stone fruit sit alongside almond, fennel and a savoury, nutty richness, with mouthwatering acidity keeping the finish fresh. Rated 94 points by The Wine Front, this offers the depth of flor ageing without losing the fruit that makes it so enjoyable to drink.

94 points - "The wine has been “under veil” for 18 months, and in that time has not been topped or manipulated. Pretty exciting. “So much of what we do in the vineyard and winery is managing ecosystems of microflora, and the ageing of wine ‘sous voile’ is seemingly the epitome of that philosophy” – Matt Large, Praeter wines. This is beautifully done. I could drink a lot of this. It’s nutty and complex but there’s delicious ripe fruit as the underpinning. It tastes of florals, nuts, lemongrass, lemon, yellow stonefruit, custard apples and dried apricots. One word. Compelling." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Savagnin from the Magpie Block, Southern Fleurieu. The site features an E-NE slope of sandy loam with ironstone, quartz over limestone and clay. The vineyard is dry-grown and Matt has been managing it organically since taking over.

This release features two unique flor strains, selected by Matt over his time working with the style. The wine has been “under veil” for 18 months, and in that time has not been topped or manipulated.

The nose exhibits almond kernel, fresh fennel frond and crushed cumin seed. The palate races with lengths of mouth-watering acidity, fresh lemon pith, sunflower miso and roasted macadamias

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
